Hi Everyone

These shots are from the ruins of a 13th century Abbey which lies near the banks of the River Tay in the north of Fife on the east coast of Scotland.

The abbey was built in 1229 by Queen Emerengarde who invited Cistercian monks from Montrose abbey in the Scottish borders to build a daughter house in Balmerino.

The area is thought to have been chosen due to its benign climate and existing religious connections in the area.

The abbey was occupied up until the reformation in the 16th century ,it has been in a state of ruin since that time.

The grounds of the abbey are also home to the oldest tree in Fife. There is an old gnarled Spanish Chestnut tree which is thought to be between 400 - 450 years old.

The last few shots in this collection show the view over the River Tay.

I just see a white cat there, it doesn't look like no owner.
these photos are beautiful😊

I like to think that cat is a reincarnation of one of the monks that lived in the abbey. He is watching over the grounds keeping the mice away :).

wow was it a fairy tail story, sounds nice, thank you anyway😊
