I took down my Foraged Norway spruce Christmas tree today and thought of repurposing it, as it seemed a waste to discard it.
Since it is unsprayed, I collected the needles to use for teas and distilled some to extract their essence.
They are mostly dried and easily falls off.
I have collected a big bagful.
Norway spruce (Picea abies) contains lignans like matairesinol and potent antioxidants such as phenolic compounds and flavonoids, which support hormone balance, reduce oxidative stress, and promote overall health.
After collecting the needles, I decided to craft a space-saving multipurpose hanger to hold everyday items.
I started by thinning down the tree, making sure not to cut the main stems too short.
It’s essential to use a good cutter to avoid struggling, as the stem is quite tough.
The whole place was a mess!
Once it was thinned, I decided which branches to keep and which to cut.
If you’re not in a rush, the needles will fall off naturally in a few days, saving time and effort in pulling them off manually.
I’m happy with the natural look of the bark—it has its own character, so I didn’t feel the need to polish it.
Initially, I tried standing the tree on a log, but since I’m not very experienced with woodworking, it wasn’t sturdy enough. Instead, I used the tree stand, which had the added advantage of an inner basin that’s perfect for holding wet umbrellas.
I was amazed by how much it could hold!
Here’s how I organized it:
The top layer features a loop for hanging scarves.
Below that, shorter cut stems are used for keys.
The middle section is perfect for hats, gloves, bags, and coats.
The lower branches work well for wet and muddy shoes or slippers.
The basin is ideal for standing wet umbrellas, keeping water off the floor.
This project turned out to be both space-saving and highly functional. I’ve never seen a multipurpose hanger as unique and useful as this! It’s such a satisfying way to repurpose a Christmas tree.
I hope you’ve found creative ways to repurpose your tree too! Have a wonderful day!
