Ronald Ross returned to England in 18 to enroll in a diploma course in public health. At the same time, he continued to pursue literary and musical hobbies during his leisure time. After completing his diploma course, he got married the following year and returned to Bangalore with his wife.

In his first published research paper, he opined that any toxins from mosquito bites are transmitted from mosquitoes to human blood, causing malaria. He also thinks that Charles Laveron may have deliberately misinformed.
He set out to disprove Laveron's information. He may not have been able to see Mr. Laveron's parasites because of a microscope defect. He also insisted that he would not accept Laveron's research until the parasites were found. Ronald lost interest in the work again and became frustrated.Colleagues found out about his plight and suggested that he meet with Patrick Manson, a physician in London, to discuss tropical diseases such as malaria. Manson was considered a skilled physician. So Ronald returned to England in 1894 on a second leave of absence from the military.
