Nepal's changing foreign policy in South Asia

The size of the country is almost equal to our Bangladesh. Surrounded by land, the country's two large neighbors have nuclear bombs. Being a green land of natural beauty and courtesy of all the religious aesthetic shrines, the country attracts a large number of tourists every year, which plays a very strong role in the country's economy. The country is unique for another reason. The Communist Party is still the only country in South Asia to hold power. It was about Nepal.

The two nuclear-armed neighbors of Nepal are undoubtedly India and China. Both countries have been working tirelessly for decades to dominate regional politics. Of these, China is far ahead of India in terms of economy. The Indian market itself is rife with Chinese products. China is competing with a very strong economy like the United States.However, it goes without saying that India is also lagging behind. According to experts, the policies adopted in India in the field of economy will play an effective role in strengthening the Indian economy in the long run. The huge market and favorable environment for foreign investment are thought to be extremely conducive to the stability of India's national economy.

Nepal has been dependent on India for its economy for years. Therefore, the geographical location of Nepal is responsible. India is on all three sides of Nepal. At the same time, there is no sea connection with landlocked Nepal. As a result, avoiding India and conducting foreign trade is nothing less than a daydream for Nepal. India's multidimensional economy is able to meet the demand for all types of Nepali products, so Nepal did not need to look for alternatives.

With some data, it will be easy to understand how deep India's economic relationship with Nepal is. Nepal accounts for two-thirds of the total import trade with India, where only 14 per cent of goods are imported from China. India is also Nepal's largest trading partner. About 80 percent of Nepal's exports are sent to India every year. India supplies almost all the necessities of Nepal, starting from fuel or medicine.

A large part of import-dependent Nepal's economy comes through remittances. In this case too, India is playing the role of savior of Nepal. This year, Nepal has received about 305 million Nepali rupees in remittances from India. Of course, India also earns a huge amount of remittances from Nepal.
