Angels and Demons in the Hive Blockchain

in Lifescape Tribe19 days ago (edited)

As I expressed with eager anticipation last week, I was truly excited for the weekly contest. When this week’s color theme was unveiled, it was as if fate whispered, reminding me of a golden treasure hidden somewhere in my possession.

(Found it! The golden statuette of Saint Michael the Archangel)

The Watchers

The golden statuette of Saint Michael the Archangel reminds me of the hive watchers in the hive blockchain. As someone who is new to hive blogging, I make it a point to learn some things about the blockchain and about the rules in blogging.

I have encountered some articles about the whales and the abuses in the blockchain which can be disheartening. However, the topics that intrigue me most are the topics on the hive watchers. While many articles praise the watchers for their unselfish efforts to uphold the integrity of the hive blockchain (by encouraging original and quality contents and discouraging fraud especially the use of AI in generating contents) , there are far more articles that are focused on the other side of the watchers. There are even authors who are dedicated to "watching the watchers".

The Lucifer Effect

"Even angels sin..."

When talking about angels, who cannot remember Lucifer. He was the leader of angels before his rebellion and eventual fall.

The name "Lucifer" comes from Latin and means "light-bringer" or "morning star." Sadly, the name is unconsciously associated with darkness despite its etymology.

The term 'Lucifer Effect,' a concept introduced by psychologist Philip Zimbardo, describes how ordinary people can engage in harmful behavior under certain conditions.

These two questions are simple but require complicated answers:

  1. What will happen to good people if you put them in a bad environment? On the other hand, the next question
  2. What will happen to evil people if you put them in a good environment?

Hive as a decentralized system, becomes particularly prone to this effect. Anonymity on the platform can reduce accountability, enabling users to engage in negative actions they might avoid in more traditional settings. This anonymity can lead to behaviors like spamming, trolling, or other harmful activities, which erode community trust and eventually destroy the very essence and foundation of the hive blockchain.

Let the Angels guide you...

By the way, in the Catholic Church, the feast of the Guardian Angels is celebrated today. We might as well pray to our guardian angels. With everything going on in the world, prayer is much needed.

The Guardian Angel Prayer

Angel of God, my guardian dear, To whom God's love commits me here, Ever this day, be at my side, To light and guard, Rule and guide. Amen
