Since I had plenty of fun a few days ago, in just about one hour before the rain started to fall on and around the small pond in the inland area about 40 - 50 kilometers from where I live ...
... the next day I returned with the same bunch of friends, to get more pictures.
It was raining heavily during the night, and in the morning the pond was much bigger and deeper.
Some dry parts were flooded now ...
... the frogs were chilling in the deeper water ...
... and dragonflies, absent the day before, were flying around in circles. Here you can see the Libellula depressa, commonly known as the broad-bodied darter.
If you have read the previous post about this pond, a post that shows things in their dried out version, maybe you remember the dead fish out of water. The fish hasn't been resuscitated, but at least the corpse was floating again.
One frog was resting nearby ...
... and closer to me, near the edge of the water ...
... a cicada was drowning.
I took a couple of shots ...
... and then I took the insect out of water. The cicada flew to the nearby tree and resumed its song soon. After this shooting and rescue mission ...
... we sat in the car, went driving around that area, through woods, meadows and small villages ... and we stopped by the railroad tracks. We took a few shots from the spot where the car was parked ...
... and then we walked downhill ...
... to the small train station ... of the town called Sveti Petar u Shumi ...
... which means literally "Saint Peter In The Woods" ... a small town that arose around the Benedictine Saint Peter and Paul Abbey, founded in the 1130s.
I visited the town and the abbey many times, but I have never been near the rails, and never saw the railways station at the outskirts of town.
These small stations around the peninsula are usually empty most of the time ...
... so we were rambling around with no restrictions.
The railroad signs looked like fragments of a larger rebus ...
... I don't know what they mean.
In the area behind the station, we found some lovely architecture ...
... some old, abandoned house with rundown facade ...
... attached to a well maintained red building.
I like this contrast very much.
We went upstairs to see if the door is unlocked ...
... but we couldn't enter. There was a shiny new padlock on the old, dilapidated door ... so we walked back to the car, and drove away ...
... back to the pond.
The frogs were still quiet on the water.
While the others were photographing the frogs, I went searching for insects ...
... on the meadow around the pond. I found and photographed a moth and two bumblebees.
Two slightly differently looking bumblebees.
On the vegetation close to the water ...
... I found a cluster of minuscule eggs ...
... something that looked like a cocoon ... or pupa ... or a pile of dried out eggshells ...
... a dead leafhopper and a relatively big black ant near the minuscule corpse. There was another, much smaller ant not far from there, on the same leaf ... but I didn't notice it back then. Only today, while preparing and selecting the photographs for this post, I saw the smaller ant. He was dragging something. You can see the ant dragging some elongated object longer than himself ... this secondary scene on the shot is blurred in the background.
On the shrubs around the meadow, I photographed this ermine moth ...
... a strange ant - mimicking nymph of the Himacerus mirimicoides, a bug from the Nabidae family ...
... and another leafhopper & ant combination ... but this time both insects were alive.
As the day was getting dark ...
... we were on our way home. The last two shots were taken while approaching the town called Zminj, an administrative center and the biggest small town of that area.
And that's all. Hope you enjoyed the trip. As always in these posts on HIVE, the photographs are my work.
What a cool post so much variety with nature and all the wildlife and insects and then the cool buildings and train station
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk
Love the frog photos and that ermine moth is lovely!
Hi @borjan This is my comment to your last post, sorry I did not find where to place it .......,the sunset is great, the spider may have stayed there resting, but it runs the risk of being ambushed as you say, but there it will perish, predators abound and spiders have several, you are on vacation and in the end you say that you vote and read a little posts and we prepare photographs to publish, it is strange how despite supposedly being on vacation we always look for what to do.
Greetings and rest and enjoy your vacation .
this photos are nice... . still wondering what could have killed the fish and why nobody took it. I see you had a great time and you choose to stay in the serene environment instead of a busy city vibe and all that
I also had a great time in my wednesdaywalk, I visited the beach basically to relax
