THE FIRST MORNING OF THE FIRST DAY OF A PROMISING NEW YEAR

More often than not, the morning after New Year's Eve looks like the same shit you left behind with the passing of the old, decrepit year. The weather is usually the same, therefore, if something otherworldly or catastrophic doesn't happen, everything appears unchanged by the change of the Calendar on one's wall. I'm glad to report that this wasn't the case today, here where I live.

Today and yesterday look like two opposite entities that successfully separate the old from the new.

It's a beautiful day that started with a fabulous morning. In this photograph, you can see the boats and their reflections on the calm water of the harbor.

Here you can see the desert I visited a bit later. I mean, it resembles a desert, but ...

... but the photograph was taken on the beach.

Here you can see the only plant I saw growing in the sand, there on the beach. For me, this was a highlight of that morning experience. The gracile little plant looked kinda epic in the morning light.
The name of the species is Cakile maritima.

On the terrace of the beach bar that works only in summer, I found a lighter that can't light a shit in its current condition. It's a dead little machine. A corpse of the fucking lighter. Good luck getting cancer by lighting a cigarette with this lovely little piece of garbage.

On the wooden planks of the bar's facade, I found this little ode to Tetrahydrocannabinol some local dude or dudette left in memoriam of a good beach party.

This shot allows you to take a look at some distant pines and other beach bars and booths further along the shore.

These booths were much closer to me while I was photographing what the beach had to offer on the first morning of the brand new year.

In this photograph, you can see a happy polar bear joyfully jumping while the polar ice is melting. You can also see one of the only few buildings situated very close to the beach and the sea.
In summer, the restaurant on the ground floor offers bland food at salty prices.
The rooms above the restaurant are fine, and the view from the terrace is well worth the price.

The place is called Bijetza and is generally considered the most attractive beach in town. Now, if you don't know much about me, you may wonder what town I'm talking about here.

The town in question is Medulin.
In this photograph, I zoomed in on the houses in its center and the iconic church on the top of the small hill about six or seven hundred meters from the beach.
The name of the church is Saint Agnes. I mean, the Church of St. Agnes.
It was built in 1894 in the place of a much smaller cemetery chapel.

Here you can see the lamps in the place called "Family Park"
It's an amusement park for small children.
The lamps resemble flowers or some long-necked alien animals similar to the birds and dinosaurs we know from the past and present of our fantastic planet.

Every year new buildings are added to the area near the beach. Here you can see one that has been in construction since 2022.
