What's Buzzling People?
Are you doing well with your BEE-snesses -may it be grinding, breeding, creating, or selling etc.? Well if not, just think that it's all part of the process and you'll eventually grab that big honey you're aiming. Me, on the other hand, had just finished few of my school works earlier and luckily have some spare time to at least share something here before I put my focus on my next subject. And it'll be about the 2nd axie art contest I tried with Method to the Mythos's first official art contest with the theme,"Axie meets Mythos".

Quick Back Story

I wasn't actually planning to join this one because when my friend, kalm, mentioned me and Kaizen on the tweet, as soon as I saw the prizes, I knew exactly that it'll be a great competition between artists. Almost a week has passed before I actually got the thought of, "Why not try the challenge, besides it's a pretty big win even if I got a good shot with the 4th and 5th"

Besides from the prize as a motivation, I was really invested with the theme it has because ever since I watched Percy Jackson films, my heart is basically captivated with mythologies and such fantasies.

INSPIRATION

Their theme "mythology" is not exclusive with Greek subjects and is really open with any geographic origin. So I thought, why not pick from my own country's mythological creatures. Besides, PH mythology is so rich and visually impeccable. The thing I ponder the most was "how can I incorporate axie stuff in it?" because most of the gods, goddesses, deities, or even mere creatures in PH mythology are all culturally or traditionally inclined. Of course I don't want some disrespectful details on it that could offend my folks.

Browsing all the possible options, I saw the perfect inspiration that I can use. The great and renowned Nuno sa Punso that I think no Filipino would be unfamiliar with.

source

The nuno sa punso ("old man of the mound") is a dwarf-like creature in Philippine mythology which is believed to live in an anthill or termite mound. Its name literally means "Ancestor/Grandparent living in the anthill." - Mythus.Fandom

After deciding, of course I started conceptualizing it.

SNIPPETS OF THE PROCESS

Well, the time table of this work is above all, a collective patches of my daily spare time. It took so long, almost by the bell, before I finished it due to my strict schedule with my class. I even thank the fate for letting me finish it because most of the time, I go out of ideas on what kind of color palettes should I use or how should I put shadows and lightings and so on and so forth.

THE OUTCOME

Untitled34_20211015221748.png

The Baybayin, the figures on the left side , is read as A-Ku-Si Nu-No which is just a syllabicated Axie Nuno in Filipino.

Baybayin is the pre-colonial beautiful ancient writing script of the Islands of the Philippines. Incorrectly known as “Alibata”, baybayin has been a core part of our culture and heritage for centuries. It has been the soul interconnectivity of our ancestors through writing. - Bayani Art
