How The Relationship Between Married Couples Should be? Scriptural Standpoint!

According to 1 Peter Chapter 3 VS 7, The Apostle Peter under the guidance of the Holy Spirit urged married couples to love and honor themselves. Why is it important for them to share the responsibility of keeping their home united and lovely despite the ever-changing world scene and negative influence abound and how can the keep their union evergreen. These two questions will form the bases for our discussion.

Our heavenly father is a happy God and wants us to be happy too. Among the gifts and perfect presents, He gave humanity to makes our lives happier. The gift of marriage reigns supremely. Whenever man and woman yoked themselves before his presence, they vowed to love, respect and honor each other. Truly, as them keep this important vow, their love becomes strong and last forever.

Many reports and experiences have indicated that many couples in the world treat each other badly. Many of them beat their spouses, inflicting many injuries and deaths may occur. Some of them pretend that they love each other in public, holding their hands and share flowers but hated enemies in their dark. Some of them look at others and watch pornographic articles at the detrimental of the "supposed" loving homes.

Many factors might be the reason why their loves for each other grew cold and they forget their precious vows. Many of them grew up from broken homes and poor family background where one of the parents being ridiculed and treat badly. Others are influenced by their culture in which they does not respect women or treat them as second-class citizen. Many people failed to have self control with bad temperament. But all these reasons and more does not warrant the ill treatment, many couples experiences in their marriages.

As Servant of God, how best can we improve the relationship with our spouses? Firstly, allowing God's guidance and direction in our homes. Bible remains the vital tool for happy and respectful home. As God's word, it's admonitions are very helpful for the couples. In Ephesians chapter 5 VS 33, husband should love their wives as their own body while the wives have deep respect for her husband. As one cherish his body and nourish it with good fortune so will husband take good care of their wives. A good wives show their husband love via their deep respect.

Avoidance of situations that will jeopardize our relationship with our spouses especially from friends and company. Iron is sharpened by another so we should be careful on the friends, we keep. If they are women beaters, likely we will learn it and practice it on our wives without causes. Be cautious of bad entertainment like movies, books, music etc, such artistic properties can affect us badly.

Allowing God's spirit to lead us. Be glow in the spirit and have much to do for him will be helpful. Our godly devotion have strong influence our morality and behaviors. We tend to be more respectful and considerate thereby benefiting our spouse and home.
