Cut It Off!

Let me talk a little bit about temptation....

We all have it. We all deal with it. We all fight against it each and every day. It's interesting to see what Jesus says about it in the bible, as one verse always hits me when I think about this very important topic...

O.K., some people take this literally but I'm pretty sure Jesus is not saying...Go cut off a limb. What He is saying those is deal with the problem at the source. Nip it in the bud as the popular saying goes and this is how I look at it in every day life.

Social media is a blessing and a curse.

There is really nothing that has helped and hindered human communication, quite like social media. As for sharing the gospel, this is a fantastic way to share the gospel however...And this is a big however....It can be the devil's playground.

Remember what Philippians 4:8 states....Whatsoever is pure, think of these things....So while social media can be a blessing to some, for others, it's the source of all temptation. In the world, worldly things, issues, lusts, bigotry, racism, hatred...You name it, it literally breeds there.

So I made a decision back in February, to take a huge step back from social media. I stopped posting completely on Twitter which was a big deal for me personally because Twitter was always my favorite social media platform. But 'temptation' still reared it's ugly head....

Yesterday on the Sabbath, I found myself scrolling Twitter on my phone and seeing what was going on with the world. And guess what that led to, absolutely nothing positive. I completely took my focus off God and spend time in the world...Worried about what political issues were arising and what some player in the WNBA did to another player in a basketball game...

Is this what Philippians 4:8 tells us to do?

So it was time to 'cut it off'....I figuratively cut off my access to Twitter, by deleting the app completely off my mobile phone. I saw the problem, and cut it off at the source. And while I'm not saying I'm the perfect saint, this is what happened this morning...

I woke up, made breakfast and opened up my bible first thing in the morning and focused on Him.

Amazing.

Usually, I would scroll Twitter and see what 'drama' was happening in the world. Today instead, I focused on Him.

Look, I'm no theologian. And I'm not expert in this Christian walk stuff. But I know for sure, when we see what is causing us to fall and to sin, the best remedy is to cut it off at the source so it gets no time to fester and grow.

And for me it was simple....Stay away from the social media disease lol
