Work with me here....We've got to do some story time to set up what I'm proposing :)
For over 20 years, I built businesses online. So I got into this social media stuff pretty much on day one. And building brands and businesses online over that time, required one to be in front of your potential customers and current customers...Daily.
About a decade or so ago the term 'inbound marketing' started showing up. And the concept went like this.....Create content that pulls people to you. Seems simple enough right? An entire industry was formed for content marketing strategies. And one of the concepts I really was attracted to was the idea behind stock and flow content.
Stock content, was your pillar content. It's what you were known for. It was the the stuff that got shared the most, talked about the most and discussed the most. It's what made you, you!
But to create your stock content, which didn't happen every day, you needed flow content to keep people coming to your stuff. A funny meme. A quote. A picture. Something to keep your audience and customer base engaged!
So now fast forward to this example from years ago and I start to ask myself....How can I integrate this same kind of strategy when it comes to my bible studies.
And here's what I came up with:
My 'stock studies' would be...Doing an entire verse by verse study of a book of the bible. In my church we do these quarterly bible studies that take up to 3 months to complete. They are pretty intense, have lots of content to go over and are much more than a surface reading of the bible.
The fact that they take place every quarter and not every day means....These are doctrine defining studies. And I really enjoy them.
Here's some material I have for this quarter's study. I have an entire book written on the topics discussed, a detailed daily study of scripture and an in-depth commentary of each topic discussed.
Like I said, it's intense. However at the end of the 3 months, I feel like I have a deeper understanding of the topics discussed. And the doctrine is sound, proven by the deeper than usual bible study.
Stock study! Something that doesn't happen every day, but over a few months....This can be done also by picking a book of the bible, and maybe reading it verse by verse along with a trusted bible commentary. The purpose being for in depth, slow and methodical study.
As for flow studies....
This is where I would put things like:
Daily devotionals
Bible reading plans
Religious book readings
Weekly prayer meetings
Basically anything you do each and every day that puts your nose into Scripture.
The idea of these are to keep you engaged with the word. And commit your daily habits to bible readings, prayer and devotional lifestyles.
And I'm sure there are many more 'flow' studies you could do, but this is what I do personally every day. And as you guys know, 2025 for me is gearing up to be a big spiritual year for yours truly....So this is something I'm committing to for the entire year.
So stock and flow!
My thought also on this is the more you are doing the 'flow' studies, the more the 'stock' studies start to open up. You will feed your deeper study as you open up God's word every day.
Would love to hear your thoughts on this and also if there are any other example of stock or flow bible studies you can think of?
Speaking of some flow content....Be sure to swing by the Kingdom bible study community on the blockchain!
We are currently doing a daily reading plan as a group and would love to have you :)
