And we're back!
It's been a while since our last #kingdomproverbs post so I'm excited to get back into our study of the book of Proverbs!
And for a quick refresher, here's the 'Proverbs Men' graphic that inspired this blog series....

We're down at Proverbs 22:1 which reads in the King James Version:

I can't begin to describe how much value I put on this verse. And maybe it's time for 'story time with Jongo' as we go back to my younger years. When I was in the world and much younger, I was a huge fan of the hip hop culture and music genre. And one of the things that presented itself in all those records I used to listen to was....The artists loved money, but to them their reputation and name was what mattered most.
Wow, did I really bring hip hop music into a bible lesson??? And did you use a hip hop song in the title of the post
O.K., let's not go too far into the world with this but we can see what King Solomon is bringing up as the graphic reads the Proverbs Man and Woman 'values reputation over riches'. And at first, if we look at this verse quickly we might thing Solomon is talking about having a good name for mankind. And a reputation for your fellow man....
However, I think there is a much deeper meaning to this verse. Work with me here....
What is God's name?

We see many names for our Lord throughout Scripture but what is seen with all these titles is.....His character!
Let's dig deep and see what Moses witnessed in Exodus chapter 34:

Christlike character building is well....Sanctification. As we are to follow Christ's example, we see clearly that His name is found in His character. His attributes. His amazing peace!
So rewind back to Proverbs and while we can think at first, we need a good name for the world and it should be placed above riches. I agree with that however the 'good name' we should be following is God's. And we learn His good name through His character.
Money is fleeting. We are but grass to wither away. However the name of the Lord shall reign forever. To me, that's worth a WHOLE lot more than silver and gold. I truly believe, it's the most important thing of all.

Welcome back @jongolson,as believers,a good name is better than riches indeed. Solomon was urging believers to prioritize integrity and godly character over material wealth.
Going further, Jesus Christ exemplified this, growing in favor with God and people through perfect righteousness (Luke 2:52), offering a model for eternal legacy over temporal gain.
Such a reputation opens doors of influence, trust, and gospel witness that money cannot buy.
Unlike riches, which fade, such a name reflects eternal value in God's eyes, urging Christians to invest in moral growth over financial gain. This holistic development in Luke 2:52 demonstrates how favor, earned through upright living, surpasses temporal treasures.
I think that focusing on character instead of money is an important reminder.
