Hail to the Hive!

The good old British weather continues to throw something different at us every day at the moment it would seem. When we arrived here at Tixall Wide a few days ago, it was grey and chilly but pleasant. The very next morning it was beautiful clear blue skies and crisp, cold fresh air. Was superb with amazing views of the surrounding countryside. But in the evening…… the fog rolled in.

So I woke up this morning ( insert blues guitar riff here ) and it was what they would call a real pea souper.

I have to empty the ash from the fuel burner in the mornings and keep the fire lit as it’s our only source of heating on Badger the Narrowboat. This means no matter what the weather I need to empty it. So I stepped off the boat onto the frosty tow path and looked around and all the amazing views from yesterday were completely hidden behind a dense blanket of fog.

And then as I stood there taking in the misty morning scene a couple of swans came over to say good morning. Ok they didn’t really come over to say hello they were clearly on the scrounge for an easy meal but they did look quite majestic as, out of the mist, they came over towards where I stood to beg some food off me.

Well I guess if you’re going to beg food might as well look all majestic! They are quite impressive to look at but I have noticed they have a bit of a shitty attitude. Looking all majestic and fine didn’t do em any good this morning though as i only had a tray of wood ash from the multi fuel stove.
