Hello black and white community.
Today I’m sharing a series of images in our preferred format: where color is absent, but character is abundant.
These photographs were taken from the top of a hill in Panama’s Metropolitan Park. From that point, the city reveals itself in a different way: distant, dense, imposing. The result was definitely worth it.
The experience itself was outstanding. Walking through a jungle in the very heart of the city, hiking surrounded by dense vegetation, and suddenly encountering these urban views is hard to put into words unless you’ve lived it. That said, I had the “luck” of visiting Panama during the rainy season: constant rainfall, heavy cloud cover, and intense humidity. Photographing under those conditions is not easy, but it is part of the challenge.
As always since I acquired it about a year ago, I used my Canon 5D Mark III; a true workhorse that never disappoints. Although I carried all my lenses with me, the images I’m sharing today were mainly shot with the Pentacon 29mm f/2.8, working almost always at f/8 to achieve the best possible sharpness. Due to the low light caused by the weather, I had to improvise more than once. I also used the Canon 70–300 IS USM f/4–5.6 for some shots.
Later on, I’ll be sharing other images, this time in color, with a stronger focus on nature and on the contrast between the urban environment and the natural surroundings. I’ll probably post them in a couple of days in the neighboring community Photography Lovers.
I sincerely hope you enjoy this series.
A warm hug to everyone, and happy end of the year.
