A few days ago I was walking through Old Havana with some friends and we stopped near La Bodeguita del Medio to see if there was anything interesting around. That was when we came across this man, sitting and fully focused, drawing with a ballpoint pen a typical scene of Old Havana, the cathedral and its square.
I do not usually stop for long to watch street artists, but this man completely absorbed me in his work. While talking with him, he told me that he now draws from memory. He has spent so many years creating these Havana scenes that he knows every line, every shape and every detail by heart.
Other people also stopped to watch the talented artist, but unfortunately, in his own words, the tourism that is currently arriving in Cuba does not spend much money, and selling his work has become very difficult. A reality that, sadly, is increasingly common.

Hace unos dĂas caminaba por La Habana Vieja con unos amigos y nos detuvimos cerca de la Bodeguita del Medio para ver quĂ© habĂa de interesante por allĂ. Fue entonces cuando encontramos a este señor, sentado y concentrado, dibujando con un bolĂgrafo una escena tĂpica de La Habana Vieja, la catedral y su plaza.
No suelo detenerme mucho a observar a los artistas callejeros, pero este hombre me dejĂł completamente absorto en su trabajo. Al conversar con Ă©l me contĂł que ya dibuja de memoria. Lleva tantos años creando estas estampas habaneras que conoce cada lĂnea, cada forma y cada detalle sin necesidad de mirar.
Otras personas tambiĂ©n se detenĂan a observar al talentoso artista, pero lamentablemente, segĂşn sus propias palabras, el turismo que está llegando hoy a Cuba no gasta mucho dinero y vender su obra se ha vuelto muy difĂcil. Una realidad que, por desgracia, es cada vez más comĂşn.
