| MONOMAD | Curious onlookers

What do my photos tell me? Are they just records of a specific time and place? Are they witnesses of an event? Do they speak of the people shown in them? Do they speak about me?

¿Qué me dicen mis fotos? ¿Son sólo registros de un momento y un lugar concretos? ¿Son testigos de un acontecimiento? ¿Hablan de las personas que aparecen en ellas? ¿Hablan de mí?

It could be a bit of everything. It is. And I take advantage of the fact that this will soon happen again in a space in my Havana, to record it in the #Monomad Challenge.

Podría ser un poco de todo. De hecho, lo es. Y como esto pronto volverá a suceder en un espacio de mi Habana, es buen momento para que quede registrado en el #Monomad Challenge.

The virgin will be lifted on shoulders and will walk through some streets of my city, accompanied by her faithful, while the curious people watch credulous or incredulous, it doesn't matter. But they will be there to tell it in many different ways.

La virgen será alzada en hombros y recorrerá algunas calles de mi ciudad, acompañada de sus fieles, mientras los curiosos observan crédulos o incrédulos, da igual. Pero allí estarán para contarlo de muchas formas diferentes.

I am a simple narrator, through a few photographs, and my point of view is precisely them: the curious onlookers.

I don't mind them. They are necessary and I'm usually like that, like them, with the camera always sharp. Snatching souls, with a certain delicacy. Will I be judged for this? I'm asking myself too many questions, and maybe there's a reason for all this anxiety.

Soy una simple narradora a través de unas cuantas fotografías, y los curiosos espectadores son, precisamente, mi punto de vista.

No me importan. Son necesarios y suelo estar así, como ellos, con la cámara siempre afilada. Arrebatando almas, con cierta delicadeza. ¿Me juzgarán por esto? Me estoy haciendo demasiadas preguntas, y quizá haya una razón que justifique toda esta ansiedad.

Do you have a recurring thought? Are you curious to know what's on that other person's mind that keeps on being on yours? Is she smiling now?

¿Tienes un pensamiento recurrente? ¿Sientes curiosidad por saber qué hay en la mente de esa otra persona que no deja de estar en la tuya? ¿Estará sonriendo ahora?

On September 8, I will go to the meeting of La Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre or Cachita, as she is also known. It is always nice what happens around this celebration. And do you know what is asked of this venerated virgin? That she intercedes for health, that she clears up the mess of love, that she unravels the skein in which a longed-for trip can be found or that she protects that trip so that it happens, and that she clears up the mind.

Cachita in syncretism with the Yoruba religion is Oshún, and sunflowers and honey will be everywhere, as it is her flower and the one that is offered to her. And well... the honey... you know. 😇

These songs for Oshún give me the same thrill as flamenco music and dances.

El 8 de septiembre iré al encuentro de La Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre o Cachita, como también se la conoce. Siempre es bonito lo que ocurre en torno a esta celebración. ¿Y saben lo que se le pide a esta venerada virgen? Que interceda por la salud, que aclare los enredos del amor, que destrabe la madeja en la que se puede encontrar un viaje anhelado o que lo proteja para que se pueda realizar, y que aclare la mente.

Cachita en sincretismo con la religión yoruba es Oshún, y los girasoles y la miel estarán por todas partes, pues es su flor y la que se le ofrece. Y bueno, la miel... ya sabes. 😇

Estas canciones para Oshún me producen la misma emoción que la música y los bailes flamencos.
