A veiled teenage woman sits in front of her house, hands moving clay, with her gentle movements she continues to carve until the clay forms an object that has a sale value. This woman has expertise in cultivating clay taught by her parents first so that until now she has set up a pottery business that is now being abandoned by other craftsmen in her village.
I am very impressed to see the spirit of this formidable woman, her young age, but she is very enthusiastic in this endangered business. This is a hereditary effort from his parents first.
The main ingredient is clay mixed with sand that is only processed by hand or commonly called the traditional way. So that formed various products such as pots, flower pots, in many other products it produces.
According to him, in one day the production of "Gerabah could reach 50-70 pieces of "Gerabah" every day, the production results would be sold to traditional markets in the city.
After everything is made by craftsmen, the pottery that is still moist will be dried in the sun using the sun's heat, as you can see, the teenage woman lays and dries the "Gerabah" before being burned using rice straw. This combustion process takes 2-4 hours.
Here are some pictures I took when I visited the process of making "Geurabah" in the village of Meunasah Mee, Tanah Pasir, North Aceh, Indonesia. Hope you like it.
