I asked myself today... what if I play with some of my photographs of Aurora Borealis, the Northern Lights and check them out in Black & White?
Initially I thought that won't be good and appealing at all as those magical green to violet colors would simply go away and ruin the perception of the whole picture. But as it usually happens, some of the photos, that I actually didn't plan to publish at all, ever, showed their shapes, hidden under the otherwise saturated colors. So I saw a few interesting things after post-processing some photos earlier today:
I captured a couple of meteors :) (the 3rd long-exposure)
I can see the radiation falling/bombarding from the Sun and trying to penetrate the shield of our Earth
I saw few shapes that unleashed my imagination ;)
I am also sharing a not-so-successful self-portrait, I didn't set the focal plane properly. :D :P Still, I am touching It! :))) And just in case you're curious, I made all those long-exposure Aurora photos in Iceland. It caught us by surprise, so no planning in advance and no fancy foregrounds. :D Except for myself, of course :D

You probably know by now how much I love Black & White or sometimes referred as Monochromatic photography. I have always believed that while Color Photography shows the external part of our world, Black and White Photography shows the soul, the inner hidden side of everything. Have a great day, stay safe, stay strong and let your muse be always on your shoulder!
I have never seen an aurora in situ, but I find these photos stunning. Yes, different from the ones in color but yet stunning.
I love the reflections on the lake, especially those in the first and fourth photos.
You say you never planned to publish all of these. In my limited experience, I have found that some of the photos I don't like enough or consider good enough, turn out to be great after editing. Those details that are hidden and start to surface once you play and experiment are precious.
Thank you! You've said it beautifully ;)
You're welcome! Looking forward to seeing more like those.
I felt that joy back in the days where I used to develop and copy my B&W photos. Exactly that: the joy of seeing what I hadn't before.
These are cool. Love that you captured the meteors by accident. And to think that they were there all along, but hidden by the color of the Borealis. Unveiled only when we strip away one element of the picture.
There's some deep life lesson in all of that, somewhere, methinks...
Cheers!
You thinks right, me thinks :))) Indeed, there is a great lesson in this. My read is... I have to try open my eyes wider and accept more things around me, break some of the dogmas, etc...
Thanks and have a great day, buddy!
Interesting idea to do them in black and white. My favourite is the first image as somehow it looks like an extra bombardement is clustered and going even faster in the background. 😀👍
Thank you :)
I intentionally put that one on the top, I see a ghost, the face of a female ghost :)
Even in BW it is impressive. Love the picture with the meteors in it. Like they are flying into a warp portal or something.
Still waiting to see some of this in real life myself (prefer this to be in color! 😅)
This is the first time I've seen the aurora borealis in black and white
Exceptional
good job
Great ! I have always wanted to take this kind of pictures, but in my country, or at least in the city where I live, there are no auroras, and taking pictures of the night sky in the cities is more difficult because of the light pollution.
Congratulations. Today's #monomad first place is yours.
Thank You very much for participating and for being part of the Black And White Community!

My pleasure and thank you! :)
Impressive even in monochrome
Thanks a lot, actually in color, all those were not impressive enough and I didn't plan to post them :)
