The Faces of Kaamatan - #monomad

in Black And White3 years ago

Random faces I've met during my walk around during the Harvest Festival last May. There's some I know but most of them are stranger that I never know personally or a stranger that I saw in social media. I haven't done a street photo for quite sometime and the last time I remember doing it is when I participate the 24hours photo project sometime in 2017 if I'm not mistaken. I have read an article saying that doing a street photography with 35mm or 50mm will make your photo look more authentic if capturing the scene of people up close. But for me, I have not been able to have that courage to go up close and capture a photo of people because of the guilt I have of intruding their privacy. This is my biggest obstacle when it comes to street photography using a wide lens. Thus, during my visit this time at the Harvest festival, I'm using my kit lens 18-105mm which cover a whole lot more focal length and mostly I'll be using the zoom focal length of 80mm to 105mm to capture the people around me without going very close to them. At one point, I do have the courage to ask them for a portrait and when they gave me their consent, then only I came close and take their picture. Sometimes, when I do get their consent to get an up close portrait I regretted that I didn't bring a better prime lens at the time. Seems like I have to do more practices on this type of photography to gain that courage and on the move skills of taking portraits of stranger. Here's a few of my shots during my walk around the events venue.

It's easier to get a street photo using a zoom lens but sometimes it lacks that interaction that you can feel by just looking to the photo. Getting up close and having that connection to the subjects do make the photo feels alive and interesting. Getting a candid photo also do sometimes gives a unique story but not all the time that candid photo we take have that special aura or unique story. Fishing that one unique moment of candid photo can be very hard, sometimes non existence at all unless we have that really specific theme of what we are looking for.
The more I look back my recent photo, the more I realize that I have been stagnant or maybe I've been in decline for so long that I may have lost that soul I once have when I just getting started. I also realize that in my video work where I became rigid and forgetting the basic in favour of thinking outside of the box or trying to be different than the norm. Since I lost my grandmother just recently, I realize that I have been taking this life for granted. How ironic it is that death and regret is what it takes to make us think back all the blessing that we have so far. Until the next post, I hope that you like my content and thank you for visiting my blog. Have a great week everyone.
