Aceh Cultural Traditions
Hi hivers friend.!!!
On this occasion I share some photography of Raja Si Uroe activities, this activity is an activity for children to be appointed as kings in one day, so that the people of Aceh call it Raja Si Uroe which means King in a one day.
This term is for boys who want to be circumcised, in our tradition every boy is required to be circumcised, so before being circumcised they hold a Kenduri party or often called a banquet and guest event.
Why has this become a custom and tradition,? Looks like I have to explain this tradition to the whole world, especially hive users who read my post. Ok. I will explain that Raja si uroe is a term for a boy who wears traditional clothes when doing a wedding and a khanduri (food banquet).
But in my post, this is a food banquet for guests who are invited to the venue.
This event is held because of a boy who will be circumcised, circumcision is obligatory for boys who are more than 10 years old, maybe this sounds very vulgar, but I will explain as far as I know about this uroe king's party.
When a boy is 10 years old, an aceh Muslim boy is obliged to cut the genital skin, before carrying out the cutting ritual a banquet is made, but not all people or boys do this banquet, but this activity is often done by people the rich.
Why should the rich, yes.!! This is because it is obtained and paid for with money, to process food, place decorations, invite guests and poets who bring music or singers.
In this photography, there are 4 boys sitting on the sofa, this indicates that they are the King of Si Uroe. When they became King Si Uroe, they wore Acehnese traditional clothes, but in this photography they wore Malay traditional clothes, because Aceh has descendants of the Malay community in general, so the customs and culture in Aceh come from Melayu
Furthermore, in the next 1 or 2 months they will be circumcised at the hospital, so this party is held just to entertain themselves so they don't feel scared.
At that time I was an invited guest at this party, this activity is very rare for me to find in my city, namely in the city of Lhokseumawe, Aceh. Somehow this kind of activity is rare and rarely done, especially in urban areas.
It is possible that there are still many traditions like this in the countryside, but they are rarely published. Each activity costs approximately $1000 with a dollar value, I think this is not a small amount, but there are tradeoffs for all these activities, where each invited guest gives gifts in the form of money and other gifts.
This is my entry for the daily #monomad challenge
