Of course, nature is amazing and its power to go from the most wonderful looks to the most frightening events.
I don't know how to calculate the age of the olive trees, I only found out when I was in Thassos, the island with a million olive trees, that there are olive trees that are two thousand years old.
Now I have learned that on the island of Evia, the most burned these days, an olive tree over two thousand five hundred years old burned. I also saw the images on TV. An olive tree about which a philosopher from the island wrote in antiquity.
Thanks a lot, Denise!
I have always been amazed at olive trees. I have a set of rosary beads that were carved from the wood of a dead olive tree and I cherish them very much, but not only for the significance of the species.
The fires make me so sad, just thinking of all the history they are erasing by losing them..
Thank you, Dan! @bluemoon. I hope you are enjoying your day! It is a hot one here at almost 37C.
It's only 35 degrees Celsius here, anyway, the temperatures are close. I imagine that you are attached to that rosary and the olive wood, so hard and heavy and its color is special. Of course, it has another meaning for you.
I also like olive trees, I was able to walk through several old orchards in Thassos, there I saw them for the first time. I think my next post about trees will be with olive trees.
That would be a perfect tree post. So much history, beauty and meaning. I look forward to it!
