Lego Set #42167 - Mack LR Electric Garbage Truck

in LEGO5 days ago

Do you ever have that moment, about an hour affect the fact when you think of the perfect joke. I had this with this set. I got this for Christmas, because my brother in law is a man-child he of course didn't wrap it, he simply placed it in a bag so I knew exactly what it was before I extracted it from said bag. What I should have said is...

"This present is garbage.'

Because you see it's a garbage truck, or a rubbish truck if you are in Australia (where the people who pick up the bins are Garbos, because Australia) and because Lego is pretty woke, or maybe because the waste management industry is and this is true to life it of course is a Recycling truck.

Anyway it's a technic set, smallish for one of those at just 503 pieces, and as it's technic of it of course has some mechanical pieces to it - Steering on the front wheels. the mechanism for picking up the bins and putting the rubbish in the top and then of course the whole rear section tips to empty said garbage at the tip (which is dawning on me is another English/Australian term, maybe you call it a landfill, or a garbage dump)

Anyway let's build the - So this is a new set so it has the fancy paper nags, no plastics which I like but it also has the shit box which is impossible to open, you have to rip it which annoys me.

Since we have four bags, let's check in on this after each bag.

A Quarter of the way through and it's pretty simple, a chassis through the middle, three axels, to rigid at the back and the steerable one at the front, you can see the fawn coloured column at the front this will lead to a cog on the roof you can 'hand of gob' steer with.

Half way through and it's looking truck like already, the cab is simple enough, it has some opening doors but that's about it. most of this bag is about building the mechanism for grabbing the bin and lifting it up - you can see it in action at the bottom of the post - at this stage I haven't built a bin to pick up

What is most shocking with this set is how early you put the wheels on, usually that is the last thing you do in an official Lego car build. so at this point we have essentially a rolling truck with part of the back missing.

Which means bag four is just building the big cavity at the back, the only real interest in it is the tipping mechanism. but which you've do it you have a pretty good looking truck, it's smaller than I thought it would be, but the mechanisms are pretty cool. and once you have built the bin with it's rubbish in it it's satisfying to pick it up and tip it out. this is one a kid would like playing with I think, rather than a display piece.
