🔹 About Itacoatiara

Itacoatiara is one of the main and most popular ocean beaches in the city of Niterói, Rio de Janeiro. With just 700 m in length, it is a beach break between two rock formations, providing a differentiated surf when the swell conditions and the bottom help. It is a popular beach among surfers and bodyboarders worldwide, famous for its strong, heavy, hollow waves.

This month, Itacoatiara received the first swell of the year, with big waves forming next to Pampo's Rock (Pedra do Pampo) in the right corner of the beach. This was a swell that I consider atypical since it's summer in Brazil, but it worked very well. Read the analysis below.

🔹 Analysis of the swell 🏄

The swell touched down on the coast of Rio de Janeiro on February 8th at night and evolved and grew throughout the following day, the day I made the records. The swell arrived at Itacoatiara in a southerly direction, with a period of 16 seconds and approximately 1500 joules of energy. To help, the wind was offshore and weak, not interfering with the formation of waves.

🔹 Result of the swell 🔥

The bottom of Itacoatiara beach was still unsuitable for surfing, so the bet was on Pedra do Pampo, on the right corner of the beach, where the waves formed a large triangle and opened to the right, producing ramps and sensational tubes.

With that forecast, I wasted no time and went to the beach to register those waves! Here are some records of the tough guys catching these insane waves!

🔹 Sobre Itacoatiara

Itacoatiara é uma das principais e mais populares praias oceânicas da cidade de Niterói, no Rio de Janeiro. Com apenas 700 m de extensão, é um beach break situado entre duas formações rochosas, o que proporciona um surf diferenciado quando as condições do swell e o fundo ajudam. É uma praia muito popular entre surfistas e bodyboarders no mundo inteiro, famosa também por ondas fortes, pesadas e tubulares.

Esse mês Itacoatiara recebeu o primeiro Swell do ano, com ondas bem grandes sendo formadas junto a Pedra do Pampo, no canto direito da praia. Esse foi um swell que eu considero atípico, já que é verão no Brasil, mas que funcionou muito bem. Se liga na análise abaixo.

🔹 Análise do swell 🏄

O swell encostou no estado do Rio de Janeiro no dia 08 de fevereiro a noite e foi evoluindo e crescendo ao longo do dia seguinte, dia que fiz os registros. A ondulação encostou em Itacoatiara com direção Sul, 16 segundos de período e aproximadamente 1500 joules de energia. Pra ajudar, o vento era terral e fraco, não interferindo na formação das ondas.

🔹 Resultado do swell 🔥

O fundo da praia de Itacoatiara ainda não estava bom para o surf, então a aposta era a pedra do Pampo mesmo, canto direito da praia, onde as ondas formavam um grande triângulo e abriam para a direita, produzindo rampas e tubos sensacionais.

Com essa previsão, eu não perdi tempo e fui fazer alguns registros! Seguem aqui alguns registros da galera casca grossa que estava lá pegando essas ondas insanas!
