@laviesm wrote about SLEEP for the rest challenge. Sleep is something that's harder to come by in the modern world it seems - we live a fast paced life with many anxieties, so it's little wonder we're wired and tired. For new mothers, sleep is particularly elusive! @laviesm shared about a herbal tea she was trying, but her most success seemed to come from sage tea - isn't the teapot below lovely? It speaks of relaxation and ritual. Another one she swears by is lavender oil - I bet that is in the first aid kid for all herbal folk, am I right?
@traiso also wrote about lots of herbs that are good at calming you down, including the lovely tulsi basil, which I recommend everyone try! But ultimately, she suggests being in nature amongst the plants is medicine in itself:
My number one thought is the contact with nature. All plants are healers and sometimes all we need is to come in contact with them somehow. If you live close to a forest or a big park, it is easy to have a walk amongst them and let them calm you down. Anyway, the green color is calming, so only that could do the work. The enormous oak tree, that you are super lucky if you have it close, is generous, but so is the small plant in the pot at your balcony. Having plants around certainly lowers the levels of anxiety and stress. It could also be a plant altar, something to remind you your connection with nature and ground you every time you just look at it.
She also shared a recipe for a lovely calming essential oil blend for the bath:
1 drop lavender essential oil
1 drop tangerine essential oil
1 drop roman chamomile essential oil
1 drop geranium essential oil
1/2 cup of salts
@kirlos loved sage so much for helping rest the body and mind that their post featured it. Have you ever tried sage tea for sleep? Many use it for viral infections and hot flushes, but it's also good for insomnia! How remarkable that all three entries wrote about sage tea!.
What is your relationship with rest and medicinal plants?
