Sarawak cuisine for lunch

Last weekend, I found myself craving for Linut. Linut is made from sago flour and is a common delicacy in Sarawak. Linux has a glutinous texture and is chewy. Some might find Linux as a unique dish.

Although I was born in Perak, I spent the majority of my childhood in Sarawak. I vividly remember my late grandmother preparing Linut in a large tub during tea time. My whole family would then gather around and share the Linut.

I remember a video that I saw on TikTok recently about a restaurant in Lalaport that sells Sarawak dishes. One of the highlights of the video was Linut. I told my wife that I wanted to have lunch at the restaurant. She was ok with it and we proceeded to make our move around 11.30am.

We arrived at Lalaport around 12pm. At first, we had a difficulty in finding the restaurant because I cannot remember the name of the restaurant. After a series of googling, I finally found the restaurant name which is, Kedey Kamek

In the Sarawakian dialect, Kedey Kamek means 'My Shop'

Food ordered

Once we arrived at the restaurant, without looking at the menu, I ordered a bowl of Linut. I could see the waiter was a bit surprised and asked me whether I knew what is Linut. I just smiled and said yes.

My wife and the daughters ordered a set of Manuk Pansuh rice, a set of satay, and a bowl of Mee Pok. She also orders a set of fried bananas with cheese as dessert.

The first dish that arrived was the Linut. I couldn't wait anymore and started to eat without waiting for the other dishes to arrive. While enjoying my bowl of Linut, I noticed the curious look from my daughters.

I pass the bowl of Linut to my daughters for them to taste. However, I expected their reaction after tasting it. They do not like it at all, hahaha.

There are times when I was enjoying my Linut, I had a hit of nostalgia...
