Nasi Lemak for dinner at Kampung Baru

I was contemplating whether to have a noodle soup or nasi lemak for dinner. As for the location, I choose to eat somewhere in Kampung Bharu (also known as Kampung Baru), Kuala Lumpur. For locals, Kampung Baru is well known as food heaven.

The last time I went for nasi lemak in Kampung Baru was before the pandemic hits Malaysia. Which is approximately one or two years back. I still remember in year 2010 when I bring @davidke20 to Kampung Baru, also to get nasi lemak for dinner.

Kampung Baru = New Village

Over there, you can see a lot of restaurant selling various cuisine, and they can be found throughout the stretch of Kampung Baru. The choices are ranging from Thailand cuisine to traditional Malay cuisine can be found there.

Once I reached at Kampung Baru, I park at a private car park which located in the middle of two restaurant which is (i) Nasi Lemak Wanjo (https://www.instagram.com/nasilemakwanjokgbaru/?hl=en) and (ii) Rencah Utaqa (https://www.instagram.com/rencahutaqa/?hl=en). I was charged per entry for the car park. Fee for car park was USD1.2.

Rencah Utaqa main menu are northern Malaysia dish such as Bihun Sup, Laksa Utara, Grill Cockle, and many more. While for Nasi Lemak Wanjo, as the name suggest, sells nasi lemak with various side dishes.

After few minutes of thinking, I decided to go with nasi lemak 😁. The other reason why I choose nasi lemak, is because Rencah Utaqa restaurant was really crowded. I was really hungry and I don't want to stay in queue for too long.

I took several pictures when I was at Nasi Lemak Wanjo restaurant. Below is the pictures and a brief description of those pictures:

Below is the nasi lemak that I choose. It is nasi lemak with beef rendang and fried egg as the side dish. Even though the chili paste looked red and spicy, it isn't. As for drink, I ordered ice tea.

This is the main entrance to Nasi Lemak Wanjo restaurant. Customers are required to scan the QR code for MySejahtera app before allowed to enter. There are two lane inside the restaurant, (i) for dine in (ii) for take away.

Upon reaching the front of the queue, the crew has already prepare and will hand you a standard portion of nasi lemak. Unless if you wanted a smaller portion, then the crew will provide you a new one.

After that, if you wanted to add side dish to you nasi lemak, you need to inform the crew which one that you wanted. The crew will later then add it into you nasi lemak plate.

The side dishes that is available are such as beef rendang, chicken rendang, squid sambal, cockle sambal, fried chicken, fried egg and ayam masak merah. The side dishes are not that many, if to compare with other nasi lemak restaurant within the area.

For me, the side dishes varieties are good enough, because that is the most common side dishes that customer would choose to go with their nasi lemak.

After getting your nasi lemak and choice of side dish, customer are require to pay for the nasi lemak. Drinks are ordered at the payment counter and then collected at the end of the counter.

The seating at Nasi Lemak Wanjo is spacious and clean. There is a lot of available seating when I was there. Since I was there quite early, the place is not that packed. Not sure how is the place during peak hour.

There are four toilet and two wash basin. The toilet is clean and regularly washed by the cleaning crew. There is also a musolla that can fit five person at a time.
