Update on "Pirate" the bullied and abandoned dog

in ASEAN HIVE COMMUNITY9 months ago

Pirate was brought to our attention some time ago by tourists staying at a rather remote beachfront resort. We never would have known about him had it not been for them alerting us because we can't be everywhere, and especially not on private property in the middle of nowhere.

Pirate - which is a name we gave him - was being bullied by the other members of the pack he was with but he was too weak to go anywhere else. The little bit of food which was being given to the pack would be stolen from him and he was emaciated because of it. He spent most of his days hiding in an outdoor toilet to avoid being attacked by the male members of the pack.

Pirate is also blind in one eye and has a horrible leg injury, which unfortunately is not something that we are able to correct according the vets. Although they cannot be sure this non functional leg has been injured for quite some time and may actually be a birth defect.

We can't fix that or his eye but let's focus on the progress that has been made instead.

Pirate is much happier and relaxed now that he is in our care, and even wags his tail every now and then. He is extremely afraid of other dogs for now but every now and then we will attempt to introduce him to smaller dogs that we are extremely aware are very friendly. He has been bullied by dogs his entire life (so we suspect) so it is understandable that he would be afraid of interacting with other dogs.

Another thing that we are working on is that Pirate has been attacked for eating food for years so he actually seems apprehensive to eat. We are working on this and rewarding him for eating so we have made progress. You will see a more recent picture of him at the end of this blog.

Although he has an intense fear of dogs, he really enjoys being around people and of course this meant that we were going to put one of our Xmas hats on him, only for a short time.

Pirate is perfectly ok with being handled and even picked up. No complaints here!

The last picture is the most recent image we have of him. You can see that he has put on weight and we are very hopeful that he will continue to recover. You can see his strange and mangled paw that cannot be corrected in this picture as well. His tragic story has already attracted the attention of potential adopters in Holland, so we are extremely hopeful that they will take the steps necessary to give Pirate a furever home. They are arriving next month to meet him in person and I'm sure their hearts will melt once they meet him.

Adopting a dog from Thailand to take back to Europe can be an expensive endeavor, and this is something that scares many people away from the process. We are extremely up front with people about how much this will cost and how we as a charity do not have the funds to pay for it. This honesty is very necessary on our part because we are not trying to dupe people into adopting pets, we want them to want to do it on their own.

We are very pleased with Pirate's recovery and again are very grateful to the people who pointed him out to us in the first place. Without their intervention Pirate almost certainly would have died.

The dog looks very pity. It is good and lucky for the animals that they can see and helped by the people like you sir. I really appreciated how you help poor animals just like that dog.

Salute to you and your groups sir.

yes, he was in extremely poor shape. one of the worst we have seen in a while. we hope he can recover and we are glad to have found him since he almost certainly would have died very soon.

I'm really sure He will recover and if He does, This will be a new chapter of the dog's life in the arms of Kindness and loving animals people just like you Sir.

Lets hope Pirate is adopted by the Dutch. I remember you mentioned that adoptions slowed down during covid times and was curious have they now picked up again?

unfortunately no. A large portion of our adoptions were going to the UK and USA and both of those countries changed their import rules to make it night on impossible to import an animal. The crazy thing about this is that while it is almost impossible to fly a dog into both of those countries you can fly them to a country next door such as Mexico or France and just waltz them in without any papers at all. It's just silly that these rules came into place and that they only apply to flights.

Absolutely absurd what the rulings have done and created walk arounds with no regulations. For me to fly my animals out there is a6 month quarantine which I have done before with my parrot and will do again when I do move. He was 3 months at Heathrow and made all the jet engine sounds and wish he still did the noises. Almost worth it to take him back lol.
