An old blind dog that need help badly

We know that eventually we will reach a point like we did during Covid where we have to do a sort of "triage" and will have to pick and choose which animals we can help and which ones we can't. It's sad to say this but eventually the money has to come into the equation because while we would love to, we can't simply help everyone.

Recently we encountered this dog that we have been seeing in this one neighborhood for many years. This dog is old, very old, but we don't know exactly how old.

We don't know how long he has been blind but according to people in the neighborhood, none of the other dogs mess with him and he walks slowly everywhere and receives food and water from many people in the neighborhood. I am happy this happens and I never scold people for this because I am happy they do anything at all, but I don't understand why the generous neighbors don't do anything about a massive wound thta they can all see on him as well.

I have no idea how this happened but I do know that it is something that without medical care, will become infected and infested and could result in the death of the blind dog. Someone suggested that we just let time run its course and well, that sounds cruel but also not incorrect. There are younger dogs that are not blind that also need this help. The fact of the matter is that we have known this dog for many years and he has always been kind to us, so we are going to return the favor. I do with the people in the neighborhood would not be so useless when it comes to this sort of thing but to be fair to them they are quite poor and i think they are doing all they can.

I don't think ol blindey was too happy about being put in the kennel and transported, but it is protocol. We can't have the dogs freaking out in the car or jumping out of the back of the truck when we are moving.

This wound is not a complicated thing. It will get cleaned and treated for parasites, then if necessary a stitch or two will be applied.

I want the readers out there to keep a few things in mind: If you see a dog with a would you need to realize that this wound, even if it is a small one, has a really big chance of causing a lot of problems for that dog if it is not untreated. The wound won't kill the dog, but the parasites both exterior and interior have a rather large chance of doing that. It will also likely be a slow and itchy death that causes the dog a great deal of discomfort. do not attempt to handle an injured dog you don't know

Dogs can become very violent when they are injured if they do not know the person that is handling them. They may bite people who are trying to help them if you touch them in a way that makes them feel pain. Most places in the world have an outreach group like our own that are able to help injured dogs without them hurting us. So if you see a dog that is in pain, maybe see first if there is a place nearby that has professionals that can help and if there is, maybe you can just offer to help with some of the costs. That is a much better outcome than you trying to do it yourself and now you need rabies shots... right?

Do what you can for the less fortunate dogs in this world. I know that this is exactly what we will continue to do until I no longer draw my own breaths.
