After barely getting settled, we are on the road again back to Phnom Penh for immigration documents and visa-related stuff.
๐บ Our Real Home Is 3-Wheels
ย ย ย Traveling around Cambodia without 600kg of luggage in the back of our Ape is a whole lot easier, and we found that our trip back to Phnom Penh from Pramaoy took only one full day of traveling. This was much more manageable than the two and a half days it took us to reach Pramaoy with a heavy unstable load.
ย ย ย The @kidsisters have settled back into tuk-tuk life, often with Sakana sleeping and Srey-Yuu serving as security guard while Pov and I do shopping or run nearby errands. An iPad sure is a great tool in times like these, especially for Srey-Yuu who doesn't fall asleep after 5 minutes in the Ape like Monkey-B does. She can do her homeschooling and Hive stuff all while listening to podcasts from the comfort of our tuk-tuk.
๐ช Room With A View
ย ย ย At the moment we're staying with my Cambodian in-laws, @sreypov's half-sister @ahleap, whom we've successfully onboarded to Hive, along with her daughter @mich.brmey and her son @seyha.mich. They have a house on the Tonle Bassac River a short commute south of Phnom Penh. My favorite part of her house is the kitchen sink window, which has no glass, making it a perfect picture frame for the ever-changing river landscape below.
โฝ Petrol & Diesel Hustlin
ย ย ย This family earns their living independently from various streams of income, the main ones being WING (a kind of more affordable Western Union for use within Cambodia) and a petrol-diesel business. @ahleap's husband rides his 100cc motorbike and trailer with a slew of empty jugs about an hour outside the capital.
ย ย ย When he returns, all the jugs are full with Vietnamese petrol and diesel that is normally intended for use in Cambodian government/state-owned vehicles. This source allows them to sell fuel at prices less than that of the corporate gas stations, a pretty impressive feat certainly not possible in the USA, where mom & pop fueling stations died out 50 years ago.
#Engrish Time
ย ย ย While in a random store searching for anything of interest, I came across this lovely stove, which may or not be a plant by the CCP. If this stove has some kind of ethernet plug or bluetooth capabilities, it certainly is an "Intelligence Gathering Can Stove."
๐งโ๐ญ First Ape Repairs
ย ย ย When we bought the Ape,I noticed what I thought was initially a paint crack on the left side mirror mount turn out to to be a crack in the sheet metal. This had to be repaired with bondo, wet-sanded, and then repainted. It was a pretty professional job by Cambodian standards, and the repair was free as part of the warranty, so that made me happier with the worst wet-sanding job I have ever seen.
ย ย ย Also, I was given no owner's manual when I bought the Ape, and Piaggio is ridiculous with these things, asking $75 for a PDF version online. I simply wanted to know things like the recommended tire air pressure and what kind of transmission and engine oil weights to use, etc. The certified mechanics had no idea of the oil-weights, and instead pointed to the barrels. I took pics and noted they're using 20W-50 for the engine and SAE 90 for the transmission.
The Cambodian In-Laws Are Embracing Hive ๐ฉโ๐ป
ย ย ย It seems every evening here at the in-laws' place Hive is the topic of conversation. Pov, Srey-Yuu and I have all been teaching as much Hive knowledge in person as possible, and I hope to see more and more Cambodians showing interest in crypto and decentralized social media.
โ๏ธ On The Road Again Soon
ย ย ย The tuk-tuk is slowly growing on the family despite the loud diesel engine. I think time will prove this was a much better choice than overloading a smaller tuk-tuk with our family and all of our camping gear. In another 3 or 4 days we'll be headed back to Pramaoy, so until then we'll continue running errands and shopping for various things.

First of all, I would like to comment on the job well done coming back to Phonm Penh safely. I think there has to be some exciting moment like a sand truck passing by at 80kph besides your Piaggio. That's gonna be super sketchy.
As for @ahleap kitchen window, that looks just like photoshopped view. Absolutely stunning!
About the Ape service and maintenance, the model has been existing for 80 years in the planet earth I guess(probably longer at the planet of the apes), there's for sure free resources around. Here I found you something, and hopefully it works for you.

I think 20w50 is common and safe to use engine oil for all around warmer climate region. Since the engine is still new, I think it's worthy to invest a little bit more extra on a lighter weight oil as 15w40 suggested in the service manual. I'm not exactly sure if this engine require a 2T, but that's what was suggested in the service manual.
https://www.shell.com/motorist/oils-lubricants/rimula-truck-heavy-duty-engine-oil/shell-rimula-r4-x.html
Shell Rimula R4 X was once my favorite engine oil some years ago where the guys at the car club challenging to drive a super low speed with our fuel guzzler to make them fuel save, and stretch engine oil change up to 10,000km per cycle. Problem is, it's diesel spec, and not anyone of us dare to stress the engine rewing speed.
added later: scratch the 2T, just reread it again, 2T is for 2stroke petrol engine. Yours is a diesel 422CC engine, so do not require 2T.
Malaysia got orangutans, doesn't have any ape ๐
On a serious note, we don't have tuktuk here. So I don't really know if it's possible for me to import one and make it my ride. After reading your reply, i went search for Ape cross and found this YouTube video, feeling impressed
Hi hi Justin.. wow.. it's amazing how you drove APE for a day. It must be really fun. I enjoyed reading your update. It's great to see the window with no frame. In Brunei, there are houses on rivers that have holes on the floors as toilets. I've used one before. Pretty intense to see catfishes watching me poopy. Oh yea, I went and google map all the places mentioned in your post just to get an idea of where you went.
Cambodia is a country that is growing. Lots of growth potential. CCP refers to the Chinese Communist Party right? hahaha.. that's their way of selling their poorly made goods. Advertise them like they have super duper features. haha.. =) Wish you a great day. Really enjoyed reading every bit of words that you've written.
Haha, here there is a pipe to gently scoot the poop down to the fishes at a more reasonable speed. There are guys that fish with poles right at the mouth of the poop pipe, absolutely mystifies me, and these guys are not poor or uneducated. You got it right, the CCP is increasingly calling the shots in the Cambodian economy, but 15 years ago Vietnam would've been the answer to that question.
I must say, if comparing the two, I would much rather have the future of Cambodia's economy in Vietnamese hands than in CCP hands. Seeing CCTV in Phnom Penh is certainly a wake-up call.
Wow.. hahaha.. wow.. maybe those guys love the extra ingredients.. from the ammonia. I guess, that's where their brain powers come from. Just joking.
So currently, Vietnam isn't calling the shots.. Something new for me. CCTVS everywhere? Wow.. sounds like the CCP are getting pretty serious.. Policing in the city..
This tuk tuk defitnely suits the best. Not only can blocks rain and sun but also enough to take the whole family with baggage. Good choice sir. Thank you so much for letting us know about your current enviroment and we cant wait to see more from you. And yes the kitchen frame surely does a good picture in picture style of photo. Especially for four season.
It is wonderfully simple, efficient, and nothing more than we need. There are are some really big sand dredging ships that pass by each day, and I've been thinking of posting about all the traffic that passes by that window each day.
Please show us more about the big sand ship you mentioned sir. Would be good to added into our knowledge about it.
The "Intelligence Gathering Can Stove" is way ahead of its time, but soon we will all own one. Or it will own us, depending on how you the robot uprising turns out.
I love that the whole family is embracing Hive. Seems like you guys are building a sustainable Hive empire.
Surely there is a hidden mic in that gold stove somewhere. I should've inspected the box more to see if it's "Made With The Latest Technology. Thanks for the uplifting comment bro.
The fact that it's made of gold makes the situation even more curious now.

starting new life... that is fun and challenging.
I think the engine of the tuk-tuk is very durable. You can travel for hundreds of km. There will be more stories with your tuk-tuk to read in the future.
So far so good with the tuk-tuk, although it seems happier with a few hundred kilos of cargo. When I drive it alone, the suspension is very stiff and it hurts my back, but with the family and gear it's much smoother, just another good reason for us to always travel together I guess.
Your tuk-tuk definitely gives an easier way of getting around. I learned they use this too in Thailand.
By the way, I joined Asean Hive Community and would be posting soon. Just wondering if you can send me the template of the footer banner so I can use it too in my posts. Thank you.
I love it so much, and it is efficient. The tuk-tuks in Thailand are scary fast, and I think they have street bike engines in them or something, so loud and obnoxious. Our Ape is a much different experience, namely slower, but it's the right pace for us.
Welcome to ASEAN Hive by the way, definitely looking forward to your content. The custom banner is available to ASEAN Hive VIPs, basically anyone that delegates 50HP+ to the @asean.hive curation account. But you don't have to delegate to post or be curated, but it does make you eligible for daily prizes and the big weekly raffle.
wow..it's amazing to see your family in Cambodia all of them are hive users, starting from the little ones to the old ones who are very enthusiastic to learn hive. I'm really amazed ๐๐
It's great to see you and your family happy always @justinparke
We hope to onboard more and more Cambodians, and hopefully they will onboard some folks too. My sister-in-law is an incredibly fast learner, even posted her intro before her own daughter.
I'm sure you are a good person and also a patient teacher, introducing and teaching hive to the people there is certainly not an easy thing, it certainly requires a lot of patience..
My prayers for you, I wish you and your family in Cambodia more success ๐
hi friend @justinparke ,, I feel touched by what you show this time,, even though for now your house is on three wheels,, the important thing is to stay with your beloved family
We love our three-wheeled home, and the best part is that it's actually ours. It's already served us very well, and I think there will be many good memories made in our Ape.
I can't help but like that kitchen window. Such a clear view, all the time ( and no need for window cleaning ) ;<)
Big hug!
I won't share the view directly underneath because that's where the trash goes ๐คฆโโ๏ธ.
Of course, you have to struggle to survive, it will get better one day, hopefully,
yes... =) whahahaha hi hi.. hope your enjoying your hive journey.. you will get addicted..
It's clear Pov and I stressed the importance of engagement. Leap is quite the ASEAN Hive social butterfly.
Wahaha.. can see that she is in good hands.. Asean Hive is growing strong.. wahaha.. lots of support for this great community.. =) Wahaha.. I can see that she's using English.. Is she learning it at this time?
I have faith things will work out, but buying land is not a process I am enjoying.

It sure is much more dangerous to drive that moto and trailer than to drive our tuk-tuk. It is impressive how long they have kept that bike running.
Things are good, just a bit overwhelmed with how little money we have in the face of certain things. We feel rich at times when we buy a new phone or a pair of shoes, but are reminded of our poverty when we realize we can only afford to rent a boarding room and cook healthy meals. For us it's a happy life, but the whole real estate thing just makes me feel dirty and depressed, just hate talking so much about money.
