Talking about Indonesia, of course, we can't be separated from its culinary and street food. According to one survey (I forgot the source), Indonesian Street Food is in the top 10 countries favored by people around the world. This time, I want to participate again in the ASEAN HIVE Community to share stories about delicious food and street food in Indonesia.

My culinary journey this time brought me to Binjai City. Binjai City is still in the same province (North Sumatra Province) with Medan City, the city where I live and is only about 25 km or 40 minutes away by car. My wife often sees some of her friends as well as social media influencers in Medan City coming to this viral Warung Bakso. The name of the outlet is Warung Bakso Mak Jendes.

Meatball and Noddles Stall Mak Jendes

The location of this food stall is in an alley, I forgot the name of the street and also the address. At that time, I only looked at google maps to get there. Even though it's in a small alley, my car can enter and park inside because there is a fairly large field. The location of this warung is at the corner of an alley and is very simple.

The Mie Mak Jendes outlet is managed by a mother assisted by three female employees. Occasionally, the owner's son also helps to make drinks and deliver food. We often see this condition in home-based businesses owned by Indonesians. Every member of the family, will help each other for the common good. This activity of helping each other for a family business is very positive, but there are still negative impacts. Sometimes, business owners (mother or fathers) do not give their children a decent wage as workers in the business. Oh yes, the owner of this business is a widow and she makes a meatball and noodle stall as a source of income.

This Meatball and Noodle stall is very in demand and operates from 11.00 to 14.00 and if we are late we will run out. Several foods are sold here, such as Mie Ayam and Bakso, but what distinguishes and characterizes this food outlet is that it uses a lot of bone marrow.

Chicken Noodles with Bone Drops

I ordered my favorite street food, which is chicken noodle. Mie Ayam is a noodle-based dish, with chicken stew, vegetables and soup. Almost all Indonesians like chicken noodles. However, maybe we are bored with the usual chicken noodles. Here, we can taste the delicacy of chicken noodles or meatballs with an abundance of chicken bones.

Many people may not be familiar with the food provided with chicken bones. But in Indonesia, we often find foods that are added with chicken bones and are a favorite of many people. There's a bit of irony when you see bones as a topping for one dish, like this chicken noodle dish. The price of meat in Indonesia is still not affordable for all people, some people outsmart it with bones. Usually, in the bones there are some small pieces of meat that are still fit to eat.

I enjoyed my meal this time, the taste of the chicken noodle was very delicious and the soup was also very thick with the dominant chicken broth. The sensation of eating is more exciting when I start biting the bones of this chicken in search of a little meat. The chicken bones have also been pre-boiled with spices so that they have a delicious taste.
