My Love and Laugh For K-Pop: What Makes Me Laugh

Laughter has always been a part of every person's life. I'm proud to be a Filipino in a way where we still seek to find happiness, although we experience many problems. Therefore, it's undeniable that some of my co-Filipinos always find time to share memes on social media like Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok. Laughing is that magical feeling that instantly lifts our spirits whenever I am bored or want to erase my problems temporarily. And as I stumbled upon the ASEAN Hivers' challenge, K-Pop immediately popped into my mind.

Lately, I've been spending my free time exploring the world of K-Pop. Although I had heard of it when I was younger, I wasn't interested. You know how it feels when your classmates are obsessed with groups like Girl's Generation, BTS, EXO, or TWICE, which annoys you a bit. But in ninth grade, I stumbled upon a girl group called BLACKPINK, and I'm grateful that I discovered their music. They're not just any girl group since they're currently the biggest in the industry. My curiosity about K-Pop has only grown since then due to that group. And about something that makes me laugh, here are some clips living in my head rent-free.

Leeseo's controversial acceptance speech

I know it's terrible to laugh about her overacting attitude, but it was not a crime🥱. This clip of Leeseo from MAMA has gone viral on social media, specifically on Twitter and TikTok. If you are a K-Pop stan, you have at least one social media to get an idea about K-Pop news. I can't help but chuckle at the humorous takes made by various TikTok users about her childish behavior😂. While I used to find these memes funny, they now seem casual. On a more genuine note, LEESEO from IVE is a talented individual. Perhaps her behavior is a result of her young age, as she is only sixteen.

Nayeon's iconic line

This video during their debut is still relevantly funny up until now. That's why it's understandable why many K-Pop stans always like to make fun of Nayeon's only line in that video, lol. Let's start with the good news: she got the highest line distribution. However, she only sang the line "I'm gonna be a star," which was goddamn irritating. I know those ONCE's annoyed about this song due to its repetitive line, but have you thought about what was inside Nayeon when she performed it? Her face shows that she already wants to leave that stage😂. Until now, I still grin every time I read about someone's comment if the thought inside her mind is, "I'm gonna kill JYP😂." Other netizens sarcastically thought that was her favorite song because that's her only line.

BLACKPINK memes

This video is outdated since those complicated documentaries were filmed from their debut until 2018. But if I am bored and I want to watch something from them, I always go to YouTube to search for this video, and it still doesn't fail me to laugh. It is the video where I became their fan, and the feeling is still nostalgic. I hope my subjects were also interesting, just like knowing those girls.

portfolio_paulm edits

If you are a non-K-Pop stan and have already watched this on social media, you might think it is included in the music video. It was created by portfolio_paulm, who makes different 3D videos. The edit looks natural, and I can't help to laugh at that unexpected moment. I remember that I'd already watched this a couple of times in my TikTok feed, and what's horrible is that the slam had already registered in my head. It took me a month to realize that this parody was not included in the video.

On the other hand, here is another realistic video I've seen from that guy who made the famous edit from IVE. I remember casually scrolling through my For You Page and saw this edit where Jisoo was hit by a car. I know the edit is unnecessary, but I laughed too hard and immediately posted this in the story. Poor Jisoo, she doesn't deserve it. Anyway, no one was hurt by making that video.
