Nadi, my dog, is extremely fussy about who she will socialize with. For the most part and because of her rather secluded and away from other dogs childhood, she mostly is interested in other dogs from afar but if they get up and close, she mostly just wants them to leave her alone. One of her least favorite things is having puppies around her and she quickly gets annoyed and will bark at them to get away from her.

She is more at home on a table top than she is roaming around on the ground with other dogs and if she does encounter another dog I have to stay on my toes because she will initiate some sort of friction. Not really aggression, but she will bark at them to keep their distance and some dogs take that as aggression and since Nadi is small and old she is not capable of defending herself... not that I would want her to ever try. The few times I have seen her get into a bit of a scrap she almost always immediately cowers and that is fine by me. I don't want a terror dog that tries to maim other animals that get close to her.
Well the other day we were on a "poopy walk" perusing the garbage covered streets in my neighborhood when I heard a little "yip" and this similarly sized dog that was all fluffy and clean came running across the road. I had seen this dog before but hadn't really had a chance to introduce it to Nadi.

We all know how dogs make their introductions and this was no exception. I don't think that Nadi even realized he was there until he accidentally made contact with her and then after he did Nadi turned around, sniffed him back, and then the two of them just went about their business of sniffing and exploring.

No attempts were made to play with one another and I think this is a major part of why the two of them appeared to get along to a certain degree. Mostly they were content to be in the same space, share that space, but not get all up in one another's business. The wandered around this sidewalk area for 5 minutes or so and then the brown fluffball with long front legs scampered on back to the business that he lives in.

As quickly as this doggo introduced himself he was also gone in a similarly un-ceremonial fashion. Nadi was not at all disappointed that he left but the fact that she didn't freak out when he was around is something that is actually pretty special in her life. Nadi really just wants all other dogs to stay away from her so the fact that she didn't get bitchy and chase him off right away was quite an accomplishment in our world.
I went on the rest of the walk with kind of a sense of happiness because it is extremely rare that my dog gets along with any other dog. I will return to this place with some level of hope that this little guy is frequently outside in that area.

After a couple of kilometers of walking we were back at home and after her expected "treaty-pie" for a successful walk, she headed right back to her sofa pillows for a day of sleeping in different positions. I wonder if she even remembers meeting her new friend? Well, we are going to go back there several times a week and hopefully see him again.
Our dog used to bark pretty loud any time she saw another dog, but then if the other dog would get within a foot of her she was a shy little wuss. It was pretty funny. Like you though, I am glad she wasn't overly aggressive. We would take her for walks quite frequently at the park and it would have been horrible trying to keep her in check if she wasn't as sweet as she was.
I'm normally afraid when another dog gets near her. There was one time that another dog's owner said "don't worry, he's friendly" and I just responded "this one isn't.." haha. Sorry but its the truth!
Yeah, you never quite know what is going to happen when dogs revert to their instincts. I also think people are in complete denial about their animals sometimes too. Our Jo used to lick and jump and we tried to control her, but looking back, it was probably much worse than we admitted to ourselves. I also remember another time I went to a guys house and his dog was literally biting my ankle and he was just standing there saying "oh puppy it's okay, oh puppy, stop that now". Like dude my leg is in its mouth!
Yeah people not controlling their animals is a great annoyance to me. I had a friend who had two Dobermans that were intimidating as hell and he seemed to get enjoyment how all of his visitors were afraid of them. Well that problem sorted itself out because me and all his other friends stopped going over. The same was true of my friend that had a python as a pet. He would laugh as he took it out of the cage to let it just roam the apartment. That's crazy man!
Yeah, I don't do snakes, so that would have been a no go for me! I remember when we used to walk Jo at the park there were clear signs that they had to be on a six foot lead. We always adhered to it, but even old people didn't. I would expect that from the younger generation who think the rules don't apply to them, but not older people. We would make it a point to take the path that crossed theirs so they would have to pick up their dog every time we went by.
Awwwwwww I love how you talk about Nadi, I don’t have a dog but reading about your relationship with your dog and how you can predict and handle him warms my heart.
You are doing an amazing job, well done🥰 🥰
well if you are ever in a position in your life to get a rescue I would say do it. Nadi was a rescue, if you can believe that someone would toss out something so lovely.
Dogs are more picky than humans and it is true how dogs do not like other dogs. They are very social animals, but not with each other. Nadi probably thinks she is more human than dog anyway.
I think she knows she is a dog because she will start to whine if she sees another dog but she doesn't really want to be friends with them. She is a bit curious but then, and it could be a smell thing, she immediately wants them to go away after introductions.
Yes dogs and their smelling each other up kind of normal. I find it funny when I have come home and have touched someone else dog as they know immediately.
I'm happy for you Nadi 🥰
Hopefully you'll meet your good friend again.❣
Unfortunately most of the time this dog is locked inside. I can see him on the other side of the glass windows but he doesn't get to go outside very often. I suppose that is best since he ran across the street without checking for cars when he came to visit the first time.
This little dog is really cute
Nadi surely met a good company!
