Visiting the music and food festival in Hoi An, Vietnam

in ASEAN HIVE COMMUNITY2 years ago

It's nice to see that all restrictions are basically gone here as the country tries to encourage more and more people to visit here. When you walk around town you can still see a lot of people wearing masks but more often than not, most people are not. It seems we have moved on from Covid here and this is a good thing.

It wasn't that long ago that there was no way that a festival would be allowed but now it seems that there are large events going on all the time. I normally don't attend these things but my friends insisted.

When they told me about it, I had no idea it was going to be this huge. I have no idea how many people were there but there was a lot. One of the main things that was awesome was that there was a bunch of food stalls where you could try things that you might not normally have access to including one of my favorite things on the planet.... crispy pork belly.

A reasonable sized serving of this stuff with sauce cost around $3 and unfortunately it wasn't very filling. That's why I ended up having 3 of them. There were plenty of other things to have out there such as tacos, burgers, and what not but I eat that stuff all the time so it didn't really appeal to me. Beers were cheap too and wine was only $2 a glass. I kind of expected them to put us over the coals because they could charge whatever they wanted at this thing and we would have no choice but to pay but instead they were reasonable. This is around the same price you would pay for the same product in a nearby bar.

There was a stage at the end of the beach where bands were playing and dance routines were going on and for I think the first time since I have been in Vietnam, the sound man didn't try to make all our ears bleed with the choice of volume. They LOVE excessive amplification in this country so this was a very welcome surprise.

By the time we left there were still loads of people just arriving and it was a bit of a nightmare getting the taxi out of this normally quite sleepy part of town. All in it cost me about $20 for the day and considering the amount of fun I had it was really worth it to me.

This is something they do on a regular basis in Hoi An and I will return to do it again in the future. The only problem was that it is hot season right now and I could feel the sweat building up on me almost immediately after our arrival. I guess there isn't anything they can do about that but to pray for a ocean breeze next time.

Sort:

I am a foodie at heart and this would appeal to me. Trying new food and being able to experience new flavors is what life should be all about. Here we have food festivals, but they tear the arse out with the prices and it is one big rip off.

The prices were something that I was concerned about because yes, festivals tend to rook people if they know that they can get away with it. I think in Vietnam that this doesn't happen very often though, this is one of my favorite things about living here - prices are low almost anywhere even at theme parks where the people visiting have little to no other choice than to buy from the place they are at.

No such luck here and you are fortunate they are not that greedy in Vietnam.

One of the very interesting places and of course very good to visit, hopefully in my place there will be a festival like that by serving a variety of unique and interesting foods to enjoy.

Greetings from the Philippines! It's nice to wee that peopel and some foreign people enjoying your country. But how's the covid cases there? It seems like government are now allowing you all to go outside.

The government had a wonderful solution to the Covid panic in Vietnam; They stopped talking about it and it went away. by the way most of the people in that picture are Vietnamese. I don't speak the language very well, but I know it when I hear it.

There are almost no restrictions here in Vietnam at all. Masks are only recommended in public but it is up to you if you want to do it. It's still required some places like hospitals, airports, and I think government buildings - but I never go to government buildings so I'm not sure about that. I can see a police station from my balcony and the police there don't wear masks in the common areas, so I think it is only for show when they are in front of civilians.

Wow! Amazing country! It seems like Vietnam will also be one of my choices when I travel around the world again..

Well in terms of how do they manage to control and respond to pandemic, it seems like the government really knows what is the best for their people. Great job!! 🙌🙌

There are quite a few Filipinos that live and work here where I live. I would imagine that there are tourists as well but I don't normally end up talking to them. I think if you choose to visit here at some point that you will not regret that choice!

Some Filipinos or Overseas Filipino workers tend to work there in Vietnam because of the good people living there. And just based on what I see, it seems like Vietnam people are just so alike to us. 🙂

Hoping to visit the country soonest! I know I will not regret it hihihih.

The crispy pork belly look so delicious

I don't know how I missed this post, thought I commented already, but anyhow, here I am, better late than never. This is nice to see, the restrictions have pretty much ended here in Cambodia too. I remember several posts in the past about the bureaucratic ridiculousness on display at the beaches, and if I remember there was time when they even assumed people could wear masks in the ocean?

Yeah, it was a crazy time at the beach here at least when masks were required everywhere. There is a very real increased danger of drowning while swimming with a mask on since you are basically waterboarding yourself. I think it started as a real rule, but then the lifeguards and other sentinels started to realize that this is a completely crazy rule to have. There are no rules that I am aware of anywhere in this city now and I don't even own a mask anymore.
