Every December, when the wind in Balangay Barangay turned cool and smelled faintly of roasted corn and pine trees, the people knew it was time for the Pasko Balangay Night Market . There will definitely be a lot of people waiting at the night market when December approaches.

As she stepped under the canopy of glowing bulbs strung high across the trees, it felt like walking into a constellation that had drifted down to earth. Children tugged at their parents’ hands, couples strolled shoulder-to-shoulder, and vendors called out offers of bibingka, isaw, iced drinks, and little handmade gifts that sparkled under the lights.

She wandered between the stalls, smiling at the swirl of sounds laughter, sizzling oil, old Christmas songs played on a slightly out-of-tune speaker. Everything felt familiar, yet every year it felt new.

The bulbs swayed gently in the breeze, warm and golden but then she noticed something strange. Whenever people walked beneath them, the lights flickered softly, almost like they were reacting to the joy around them.

At the far end of the Pasko Balangay Night Market, where the lights dimmed into a golden haze and the trees whispered above, stood a tiny stall bursting with sneakers.

the vendor, sat on a plastic chair beside her stall, fanning herself gently. She wasn’t just selling shoes she was rescuing them. Cleaning them, stitching them, giving them new life. Some pairs still had dirt from the basketball court some had faint creases from long walks home. But with a little scrubbing, a few fresh laces, and a lot of care, they were ready for new owners.

Beside her were two other vendors Nika with her rack of jeans and tees, and Ella at the next stall, arranging mugs, planners, and calendars with neat, artistic hands. The three of them had become a kind of night-market family.

As the hours passed, the lights above seemed to glow warmer. People wandered through the aisles laughing, pointing, choosing gifts, creating moments. My mother found jeans that fit perfectly. A teenager bought her first planner. father picked a shirt with a design his whole family could wear on Christmas Eve.

And among them were the little stories that would never be captured on paper the shy smiles, the whispered “thankyou ,” the vendors who quietly lowered prices without admitting they did.

Even though it's not Christmas, everyone should give and love each other so that we can all be happy with our best memories with family and friends.

Thank you for reading my blog until next time have a wonderful day !
