¿Puedo ser un emprendedor?

Emprender es una palabra que está de moda. Muchos jóvenes sueñan con tener su propio negocio, ser sus propios jefes, crear algo que aporte valor al mundo y que les genere ingresos. Pero, ¿qué se necesita para emprender? ¿Qué habilidades, actitudes y valores son indispensables para lanzarse ello?

Yo también soy un aspirante a emprendedor. Tengo una idea que me apasiona (la escritura en Internet) y que creo que puede resolver un problema que afecta a muchas personas. En este artículo voy responder una serie de preguntas que me servirán de guía para orientar a mi yo interno y seguir el camino correcto. Quiero compartir contigo estas preguntas y mis respuestas, para que tú también puedas reflexionar sobre tu propio caso y sacar tus propias conclusiones.

¿Planificas las cosas, los proyectos, las actividades antes de llevarlas a cabo?

Yo soy de los que les gusta planificar. Creo que tener una visión clara de lo que quiero hacer, cómo lo voy a hacer y cuándo, me ayuda a organizarme mejor, a optimizar mis recursos y a anticipar posibles obstáculos. Por eso, tengo desarrollado mi sistema Notion donde anoto mis tareas, mis objetivos y mis plazos. Así, puedo medir mi progreso y ajustar mi plan si es necesario.

Pero no siempre he sido así. Antes, solía decidir al momento, sin pensar mucho en las consecuencias. Me dejaba llevar por la improvisación, el azar y la intuición. A veces, eso me traía buenos resultados, pero otras veces, me llevaba a cometer errores, a perder el tiempo y a frustrarme. Fue entonces cuando me di cuenta de que planificar era una habilidad que debía desarrollar si quería emprender.

No digo que haya que planificarlo todo al milímetro, ni que haya que seguir el plan al pie de la letra. Sé que en el mundo del emprendimiento hay muchas incertidumbres, cambios y sorpresas. Pero creo que tener un plan, aunque sea flexible y adaptable, es una forma de darle sentido y dirección a lo que hacemos. Y eso, al final, se traduce en más eficiencia, más confianza y más satisfacción.

¿Eres capaz de aceptar tomar riesgos?

Emprender implica asumir riesgos.

• Riesgos de invertir dinero, tiempo y energía en algo que no sabemos si funcionará.
• Riesgos de enfrentarnos a la competencia, al mercado, a la opinión pública.
• Riesgos de fracasar, de perder, de equivocarnos.
• Riesgos de salir de nuestra zona de confort.

Yo soy de los que aceptan tomar riesgos. No me asusta, al contrario, me motiva y me genera emoción. Es una oportunidad para aprender, crecer y de superarse. Es una condición necesaria para el éxito. Sin riesgo, no hay recompensa.

No digo que haya que tomar riesgos innecesarios, ni que haya que ser imprudentes o irresponsables. Sé que para tener éxito debemos ser cautelosos, analíticos y estratégicos. Pero creo que aceptarlo es una forma de demostrar valentía, compromiso y ambición. Y eso, al final, se traduce en más oportunidades, más desafíos y más logros.

¿Sabes seguir instrucciones o generalmente eres quien decide todo?

Prefiero el equilibrio. Creo que hay momentos en los que hay que seguir instrucciones y momentos en los que hay que decidir por uno mismo. Hay situaciones en las que hay que aplicar la idea de otra persona y situaciones en las que hay que proponer la propia. Contextos en los que hay que trabajar en equipo y contextos en los que hay que trabajar solo.

Antes, solía creerme el mejor, el más listo, el más creativo, y fallaba constantemente. Fue entonces cuando me di cuenta de que seguir instrucciones y decidir por uno mismo eran dos habilidades que debía combinar si quería emprender.

En el mundo del emprendimiento se nos pide ser autónomos, originales y líderes. Pero también se valora la humildad, la receptividad y la colaboración. Seguir instrucciones y decidir por uno mismo, aunque sea según el caso, es también una forma de mostrar respeto, flexibilidad y criterio.

¿Qué tal eres, a la hora de trabajar en equipo?

Creo que el trabajo en equipo da mejores frutos. Entre varios las ideas pueden fluir mejor, porque la diversidad de opiniones y perspectivas enriquece el resultado. El trabajo en equipo es una forma de compartir, de apoyarse, de complementarse.

Me gusta trabajar a mi ritmo, a mi manera, creo que es más eficaz. El emprendimiento online permite que los profesionales colaboren pero respetando su independencia y autonomía. ¿Para eso nos llamamos autónomos, no? Esto, aunque parezca contradictorio, fortalece la solidaridad, la comunicación y la cooperación. Creo que trabajar en equipo, es una forma de expresar confianza, respeto y generosidad.

¿Te consideras líder?

Me gusta tomar la iniciativa, ofrecer ideas, innovar y fomentar la acción. Creo que ser líder es una forma de inspirar, de influir, de transformar. Ser líder es una cualidad que se puede desarrollar, que no depende de la posición, sino de la actitud.

En mi experiencia como asalariado, me educaron para que otro llevara la batuta. Para seguir, obedecer, ejecutar. Es verdad que me sentía más seguro, más tranquilo, más cómodo, pero también más dependiente. Si mi intención es emprender, entonces debo alejarme de la dependencia y tomar el control de mi vida.

Un líder, aunque puede ser democrático, también tiene que ser proactivo. Creo que ser líder, aunque sea con humildad, empatía y ética, es una forma de expresar pasión, visión y acción.

¿Sabes delegar responsabilidades?

En este aspecto debo trabajar mucho más, lo reconozco. El trabajo en equipo me ha hecho crecer como persona, pero aún me preocupo en exceso por tareas que están en mi campo de acción, pero debo delegar por falta de tiempo.

Es un proceso, y sé que en la medida en que pase el tiempo podré hacerlo cada vez más. Creo que la confianza aquí juega un rol fundamental. Cuando uno confía en sus colegas, y se comunica abiertamente, se van contrastando criterios y al final el trabajo mejora muchísimo. Cuando hay comunicación se puede delegar sin problemas.

¿Sabes llevar el control de tus finanzas?

Creo llevar muy bien mis cuentas y, de no saberlo, estoy dispuesto a consultar información que me pueda guiar. Es una forma de ser prudente, responsable y previsor. Creo que ser ahorrador y tener visión a futuro es una forma de asegurar mi estabilidad y mi crecimiento.

Antes me gastaba el dinero en cosas innecesarias, sin pensar en el mañana. Me atrasaba, me angustiaba. Fue entonces cuando me di cuenta de que llevar el control de mis finanzas sin convertirme en un tacaño ni renunciar a los placeres de la vida era posible y, más que posible, necesario.

En el mundo del emprendimiento hay que planificar y cuidar. Llevar el control de mis finanzas, aunque sea con ayuda y asesoría, también me llevará a crecer en madurez, inteligencia y visión.

¿Sabrías lidiar con la competencia?

La competencia es una oportunidad de demostrar que lo que ofrezco es de calidad, de diferenciarme, de destacarme. Es una forma de retarme, de mejorar, de innovar. La competencia es buena, lo malo es la falta de competencia.

No se trata de entrar en guerra con los demás. Es más cuestión de competir, diferenciarse y posicionarse. Lidiar con la competencia, aunque sea con ética, profesionalismo y creatividad, es una forma de expresar valor, confianza y liderazgo.

¿Cómo enfrentas los problemas?

Yo enfrento los problemas con optimismo, determinación y solvencia. Creo que los problemas son una parte inevitable de cualquier emprendimiento, que forman parte del proceso de crecimiento, que son una oportunidad de aprender y de superarse. Creo que los problemas se pueden resolver, se pueden prevenir, se pueden evitar.

No hay que ignorarlos, o tratar de minimizarlos. Hay que adoptar un enfoque realistas, conscientes y responsables. Pero también sé que hay que ser positivos, decididos y solventes. Creo que enfrentar los problemas, aunque sea con calma, con criterio y con acción, es una forma de expresar fortaleza.

¿Alguna vez has soñado con tener un emprendimiento?

Un emprendimiento es una forma de materializar una pasión, de aportar una solución, de generar un impacto. Una forma de ser libre, de ser feliz, de ser pleno.

No se trata de vivir en un sueño o en una fantasía. Se trata de ser pragmáticos, realistas y estratégicos. Pero también hay que permitirse soñar y apasionarse. Un emprendimiento es una forma de expresar ilusión, inspiración y transformación.

Conclusión

No pretendo que estas respuestas sean las únicas, las definitivas o correctas. Solo son las mías, las que me han servido para reflexionar sobre mi propio caso y sacar mis propias conclusiones.

Emprender no es solo tener una idea, un producto, un servicio. Emprender es también tener una mentalidad, una actitud, una forma de ver y de vivir la vida.

Can I be an entrepreneur?

Entrepreneurship is a buzzword. Many young people dream of having their own business, of being their boss, of creating something that brings value to the world and generates income. But what does it take to be an entrepreneur? What skills, attitudes, and values are essential to get started?

I am an aspiring entrepreneur myself. I have an idea that I am passionate about (Internet writing) and that I believe can solve a problem that affects many people. In this article, I am going to answer a series of questions that will guide me to orient my inner self and follow the right path. I want to share these questions and my answers with you, so that you too can reflect on your case and draw your conclusions.

Do you plan things, projects, and activities before carrying them out?

I am one of those who like to plan. I believe that having a clear vision of what I want to do, how I am going to do it, and when, helps me to organize myself better, optimize my resources, and anticipate possible obstacles. That's why I have developed my Notion system where I write down my tasks, my goals, and my deadlines. This way, I can measure my progress and adjust my plan if necessary.

But I have not always been like that. Before, I used to decide on the spot, without thinking much about the consequences. I let myself be carried away by improvisation, chance, and intuition. Sometimes, that brought me good results, but other times, it led me to make mistakes, waste time and get frustrated. It was then that I realized that planning was a skill I had to develop if I wanted to be an entrepreneur.

I'm not saying that you have to plan everything to the millimeter, or that you have to follow the plan to the letter. I know that in the world of entrepreneurship, there are many uncertainties, changes, and surprises. But I believe that having a plan, even if it is flexible and adaptable, is a way of giving meaning and direction to what we do. And that, in the end, translates into more efficiency, more confidence, and more satisfaction.

Are you capable of taking risks?

Entrepreneurship involves taking risks.

• Risks of investing money, time, and energy in something that we do not know will work.
• Risks of facing competition, the market, and public opinion.
• Risks of failing, of losing, of making mistakes.
• Risks of going out of our comfort zone.

I am one of those who accept to take risks. It doesn't scare me; on the contrary, it motivates me and generates excitement. It is an opportunity to learn, to grow and to excel. It is a necessary condition for success. Without risk, there is no reward.

I am not saying that you have to take unnecessary risks, nor that you have to be reckless or irresponsible. I know that to be successful we must be cautious, analytical, and strategic. But I believe that accepting it is a way of showing courage, commitment, and ambition. And that, in the end, translates into more opportunities, more challenges, and more achievements.

Do you know how to follow instructions or are you usually the one who decides everything?

I prefer balance. I think there are times when you have to follow instructions and times when you have to decide for yourself. There are situations where you have to apply someone else's idea and situations where you have to come up with your own. Contexts in which you have to work in a team and contexts in which you have to work alone.

Before I used to think I was the best, the smartest, the most creative, and I was constantly failing. It was then that I realized that following instructions and deciding for oneself were two skills that I had to combine if I wanted to be an entrepreneur.

In the world of entrepreneurship, we are asked to be autonomous, original, and leaders. However, humility, responsiveness, and collaboration are also valued. Following instructions and deciding for oneself, even on a case-by-case basis, is also a way of showing respect, flexibility, and judgment.

How are you when it comes to working in a team?

I believe that teamwork bears better fruits. Ideas can flow better among several people because the diversity of opinions and perspectives enriches the result. Teamwork is a way of sharing, supporting, and complementing each other.

I like to work at my own pace, in my way, I think it is more efficient. Online entrepreneurship allows professionals to collaborate while respecting their independence and autonomy. That's why we call ourselves freelancers, isn't it? This, although it may seem contradictory, strengthens solidarity, communication, and cooperation. I believe that working in a team is a way of expressing trust, respect, and generosity.

Do you consider yourself a leader?

I like to take the initiative, offer ideas, innovate, and encourage action. I believe that being a leader is a way to inspire, to influence, to transform. Being a leader is a quality that can be developed, that does not depend on position, but on attitude.

In my experience as a salaried employee, I was educated for someone else to lead. To follow, to obey, to execute. I indeed felt more confident, calmer, and more comfortable, but also more dependent. If I intend to be an entrepreneur, then I must move away from dependence and take control of my life.

A leader, although he can be democratic, also has to be proactive. I believe that being a leader, even with humility, empathy, and ethics, is a way of expressing passion, vision, and action.

Do you know how to delegate responsibilities?

In this aspect I need to work a lot more, I admit it. Teamwork has made me grow as a person, but I still worry too much about tasks that are in my field of action, but I have to delegate due to lack of time.

It is a process, and I know that as time goes by I will be able to do it more and more. I believe that trust plays a fundamental role here. When you trust your colleagues and communicate openly, criteria are contrasted and in the end, the work improves a lot. When there is communication, you can delegate without problems.

Do you know how to keep track of your finances?

I think I keep very good control of my accounts and, if I don't know how, I am willing to consult information that can guide me. It's a way to be prudent, responsible and forward-thinking. I believe that being thrifty and forward-looking is a way to ensure my stability and growth.

I used to spend money on unnecessary things, without thinking about tomorrow. I would fall behind, I would get anxious. It was then that I realized that taking control of my finances without becoming a cheapskate or giving up the pleasures of life was possible and, more than possible, necessary.

In the world of entrepreneurship, you have to plan and take care. Taking control of my finances, even with help and advice, will also lead me to grow in maturity, intelligence, and vision.

Would you know how to deal with competition?

Competition is an opportunity to show that what I offer is of quality, to differentiate myself, and to stand out. It is a way to challenge myself, to improve, to innovate. Competition is good, the bad thing is the lack of competition.

It is not about going to war with others. It is more a matter of competing, differentiating, and positioning yourself. Dealing with competition, even with ethics, professionalism, and creativity, is a way of expressing value, confidence, and leadership.

How do you face problems?

I face problems with optimism, determination, and solvency. I believe that problems are an inevitable part of any undertaking, that they are part of the growth process, and that they are an opportunity to learn and to improve. I believe that problems can be solved, prevented, and avoided.

We should not ignore them, or try to minimize them. We must adopt a realistic, conscious, and responsible approach. But I also know that we have to be positive, determined, and solvent. I believe that facing problems, albeit calmly, with judgment and action, is a way of expressing strength.

Have you ever dreamed of having a venture?

Entrepreneurship is a way to materialize a passion, to provide a solution, and to generate an impact. A way to be free, to be happy, to be fulfilled.

It is not about living in a dream or a fantasy. It is about being pragmatic, realistic, and strategic. But you also have to allow yourself to dream and be passionate. Entrepreneurship is a way of expressing illusion, inspiration, and transformation.
