Good day my friends here on the community.
This is the sketch I made for the December SketchQuest contest of @quatro. I was just staring at a blue random shape on my screen from the doodle magic challenge and letting my mind wander until it finally happened. I didn't plan this at all, but that weird blue shape started looking like the shape of a wing, so I just went with it and turned the whole thing into this sharp, soaring bird.
I wanted it to feel a bit cold but also really free, like it's just cutting through the grey sky while gliding. The lines are loose on purpose because I wanted to keep that raw energy from the original doodle; not everything needs to be perfect; I want the thinking process to show in it. I played with those jagged, dark strokes for the feathers to give it some texture against the simple white clouds. That bright blue really pops against the grey background, which I think gives it a cool winter bird vibe for December.
Process was quick and fun, although I was doubting just a bit if the shape would actually make sense as a bird or a pterodactyl . That’s my thing: just draw, go with the flow, edit, keep what’s working and learn . Hope you guys like how this one turned out
