I love reading about people who keep worms. It's something I want to do. I've experimented with creating mini worm bins indoors and once I even got far enough to the point where they started laying eggs. I don't know why it always fails though.

awww... i bought live worms from the shops. (local hardware store or bought from a nursery) Only time i have trouble is if i neglect them for weeks or let them have a really really not subtropical day with no watering.
mine have never been inside though. always in the garden,
I've seen some very cool looking indoor worm bins disguised as ottomans or like small end tables. If properly cared for, it shouldn't smell, right? I once made a compost pile in the kitchen and kept it all winter.
yeah, if its properly cared for it shouldn't smell. Mine doesn't. Just need to add smaller bits of food often so it doesn't rot. Keep it damp but not wringing wet. and ok air flow. It should be fine. I too have seen little bench ones and things. Just would not be enough for us.. lol.
