Unexpected Discover. Did Our Vegetable Fruit Without Blooming?

in HiveGarden20 days ago

Is that flower or is that a fruit?

We are baffled with such a surprise!

Because expenses are getting higher, we started trying to find any vegetables that are perennial and we try our best to plant them, hoping they will keep growing, even though they were harvested and left to sell in a supermarket.

Over the years Rene and our daughter have been trying their hardest to regrow vegetables, particularly this Sayur Raja with the direct translation of "King Vegetable / Emperor Vegetable" because this vegetable is very good for making soup and helping us digest better with improved bowel movement.

Later our daughter found out that this is actually a kind of a Spinach, called Malabar Spinach, and those black ones are its "berries"

According to her the berries are actually edible but we have not tried harvesting it yet, because there are seeds inside. We wish to harvest for its seed when it is ripe enough, so that we can have them planted in a new pot, in case its stalks and stamps does not work.

It is very interesting that because we bought vegetables straight from the grocer new our home, we never get to see a vegetable in its full living cycle. This time, we experience its fruitfulness, literally speaking!

Rene loves to harvest its leaves to fry with eggs; and this will be our protein and fibre for our lunch or out dinner. Hopefully we could make more pots of this vegetable in our very tiny balcony, so that we can have some pesticide free vegetables "from ground to plate" freshness, as our daughter love to say it.

Stay happy and healthy!

Best wishes
Philip and Rene
