Hello Hive family. I hope you all are doing well and enjoying life to the fullest.
As I mentioned in my previous blog, these days I am busy planting apple saplings in the vacant areas of my orchard as the time between December to February is considered ideal for planting apple trees.
Today I thought of sharing my method of planting apple saplings with all of you. Apple saplings bought from nurseries usually come with exposed roots. To protect them from drying, I buried the saplings in the soil.
The first step of planting apple is digging the pit. I dig a pit about two feet wide and two feet deep. This size ensures enough space for the roots to spread and grow.
I remove stones from the soil taken out of the pit and mix cow dung manure in it. This organic manure provides essential nutrients that promote healthy growth. After mixing the soil with the manure, I partially fill the pit.
Now comes the most important part. Planting the sapling in the pit. With the help of a spade I make space in the soil for the roots of the plant then I carefully place the plant in the hole making sure that the roots are spread evenly. I plant the plant slightly above the ground so that water does not collect near the roots. This helps protect the tree from root rot and other water related problems.
Once the roots are covered, I press the soil firmly with my feet so that the plant is stable and there is no air around the roots. I also make a drain around the plant.
Today I managed to plant a lot of apple saplings. It seems unbelievable to think that one day these small plants will become beautiful apple trees bearing fruits and bringing life to my garden.
