Indoor Hydroponic Rainbow Bell Peppers Blooming and Growing

in HiveGarden2 years ago (edited)
I've been growing indoor hydroponic Rainbow Bell Peppers and Basil to satisfy my green thumb this winter. After a few basil harvests, peppers have started to grow from the pepper plant blooms.

It's been almost twelve weeks since I first planted the two Rainbow Bell Pepper, and multiple sweet basil seeds into the clay pebble medium of the indoor hydroponic grow setup. I had two basil harvests, and then seven weeks ago the lights were set to bloom (12hrs ON/12hrs OFF). There have been many flower blossoms since then, they started to show up four weeks ago.

It looked like some of the flower blossoms were already starting to grow peppers but I wanted to do some cross pollinating to be sure all blooms turned into peppers.

Pollination by Hand

Not sure if this is necessary with this variety of peppers, some varieties need to cross flower pollinate, usually a breeze, bees, or other bugs can handle this, but for an indoor grow it might need to be done manually.

A small paint brush makes it easy, tickle one flower, then another, and so on.

I noticed one of the flowers was already growing a pepper, the inside of the flower had turned green like the skin of a pepper.

This Rainbow Bell Pepper variety seems to not have needed pollination, the new flowers seem to quickly begin growing a pepper.

Two Weeks Later...

Two Weeks Later there are many more flowers and flower buds appearing, many peppers are beginning to grow.

The pepper in the picture below is starting to grow to a decent size.

Check out those happy hydroponic roots.

I have to add two liters of water every two weeks, along with half a cap of the bloom formulated hydroponic grow nutrients.

Current Growth

Four weeks into bloom time, twelve weeks of total growth, many peppers are starting to grow from the flowers.

Many more flower buds are growing in the upper canopy, I see many peppers are on the way for this pair of Rainbow Bell Pepper plants.

Thats some pretty good work!

Thanks, my first time with peppers in the hydroponic setup, with the 5 gallon bucket they don't seem limited :)

Peppers love hydroponics

That pepper looks really happy! I didn't realise you could grow such a big plant in hydro, it's awesome.

I've hand pollinated flowers before, it's pretty cool to see once they start to make seedpods/ fruit.

It's amazing to see where plants can thrive, I'm curious to see how much larger this plant will grow, there's lots of blossoms on there :) Growing and pollinating plants seems to bring another perspective.

What a healthy pepper and I love the pictures shown here! such a high quality.

Thanks, I did try to give a good view of the plant, I was happy to see how vigorously it had grown :)

You're posting! :)

What a surprise as well. The content. Very cool

Hello!

!LUV

Thanks - I've had these pepper plants quietly growing for a few months, it's fun to see them making peppers now :)

Nice project! Hydroponics. Must be pretty fascinating.

Yeah :) They're beautiful plants!

Just going through your feed. Durban Poison - good lord. That was local is lekker around my parts.

What's the current legislation on Cannabis in your part of the world? Haven't followed this particular plant and updates for some time.

Durban Poison is an energetic strain, in Canada 19+ can purchase and posses cannabis for recreational use, up to one ounce can be possessed or purchased out in public. Each residence can legally grow up to four cannabis plants at one time for personal use :)

Hah! Progress!

Thanks for letting me know.

And medicinal? Are people allowed to sell as plant medicine therapists, please?

They've had medical use cannabis in Canada for a long time, now it's available for all adults, without a prescription required. It was through the regular medical system before for prescriptions, now people can research their own, go to a doctor, or just ask a bud tender :)

My how we've grown! :D

very rich growth :) they love it

You must have a lot of greenhouse space! That pepper looks really happy. I've got my seedling coming up for tomatoes and jalapenos right now but I wish I had some nice greenhouse space to grow them year round!
!CTP

I have a few small indoor tents for year round growing :) I have to start the outdoor tomato and pepper plants early indoor too, I do have a little outdoor greenhouse I'm setting up this spring, for a little longer outdoor growing season here in bc Canada.

Very awesome man! Loving the peppers in hydro!

Thanks man, they're growing great in there, much longer season indoor than they'd normally see up here :)
