"From Classroom to Garden: Embracing My Farmer Side"

in HiveGarden2 months ago
Hello everyone! I'm grateful for this another day to share my blog with you. I hope you are going to show your support by upvoting, reblogging, and commenting.😍

The saying "two heads are better than one" and the impact of having a partner in completing tasks are ideas I firmly believe in. Today, I'm thrilled to share with you about how amazing it is to have a husband that has the same goal.

Collaborating to achieve shared objectives, particularly in our garden, has brought my partner and I much joy. Come along with me today as we are going to venture another rewarding experience of planting together. I can say that our bond grows stronger with every minute we spend working on our common project together, not only the tasks we finish.

This is the cleaned area already, this part in here is the vacant area near our animals (turkeys and the pig).

Planting Together: A Garden Day

Our day began early in the morning. There were so many weeds in the area we were trying to cultivate that some of them almost reached our turkeys' house. We selected an area behind our pig house for our new plants because it provides ideal growing conditions for our veggies. The weather was ideal, with clouds and a moderate temperature that lessened the fatigue of the hard work.

This is an image of one of our turkeys while we are cleaning the area near to its house.

Our shared support and companionship is one of the benefits of having nice neighbors. We were kindly given the eggplant and spinach seeds by our neighbors. Thank you to Tiya Elena and Tiyo Junior for the seedlings that we have received. We are no longer required to prepare seedbeds and seeds coz they already provided the seedlings ready to be transferred to its place. Seeing such a strong sense of community in action is heartwarming.

We worked side by side, with my husband handling the hard lifting and digging. With a farming tool known as a "marik" (I wish I knew the English word for it!), he expertly dug the planting holes. In the meantime, I tackled the weeds with a bolo, which was a physically taxing but rewarding chore. I collected the plucked weeds and placed them in a designated spot to ensure a thorough cleaning. This keeps any potential regrowth from occurring close to our recently cleaned garden space.

These are the healthy spinach and kangkong which were transferred to this area last week. They are now looking healthy and lively.

I agree that our relationship is strengthened while we work together on the garden. It's a shared obligation that strengthens our bond and gives us a feeling of achievement. We cleared the area and then gently moved the seedlings to their new locations. We covered the tiny seedlings with coconut leaves to shield them from the intense sun.

We take a break from the project to admire our malunggay plants, which are close by, their colorful leaves swinging softly in the breeze. Not only do these nutrient-dense powerhouses improve the flavors of our meals, but they also represent the unwavering nature of our common goals. Being in the province allows us to grow these amazing herbs, which are well known for their ability to treat a wide range of illnesses. It's evident of the delights of gathering fresh veggies right from our garden to serve on our meal.

I'm happy to share that our garden is doing quite well. The peppers, referred to as sili espada in the area, appear exceptionally robust, with their vivid green foliage sticking out against the surrounding dirt. We recently transplanted some spinach and kangkong, and they are growing in encouraging ways as well.

These are the healthy siling espada which continues to thrive and give fruits despite the El Niño that we have experienced few months ago. Perfect kaayo ni sa lain-laing klase sa sud-an!

A closer look of the siling espada. Very healthy it is!

We turned a weedy, overgrown space into a promising vegetable garden by the end of the day. It was a fruitful and satisfying day that served as a reminder of the importance of perseverance, teamwork, and the basic pleasures of farming.

I appreciate you journeying with me on this adventure. My experiences should encourage you to enjoy the small things in life and the relationships we build when working together on tasks. Until next time, happy farming and happy blogging! Thank you so much for your support.
