Tuesday was another early spring like day with sun in the afternoon. I had the kitchen door (behind a storm door) open all afternoon.
My helper friend arrived mid morning and wanted to work in the New Herb garden. So he went out and cleared off all the tall dead stuff. The ground is still frozen in places so he couldn’t weed.
Row 1, woad
As I’ve mentioned before, if there’s any chance of growing in winter, many plants, particularly weeds, will do so. This woad is still alive and will take off growing in the next month or so.
Row 1, wormwood
At the end of Row 1, the wormwood has been busy.
Row 2, soapwort
The soapwort has grown out into the walkway.
Row 4, winter savory
At the end of Row 4, the winter savory is doing very well. It’s near the wall so gets a bit of protection.
Row 5, hyssop
The hyssop in Row 5, once the dead upper branches were cleaned off, has a good deal of growth.
Row 6, rosemary
There was rosemary in Row 5, but my helper friend said it had died. He thought this one in Row 6 might still have life, so he left it.
Row 6, thyme
This was a nice surprise, to see the thyme still alive and looking so good. I had planted it near the wall, but that had made no difference in past winters.
Row 7, yarrow
And of course, the yarrow is growing. He cleaned off as much dead stuff as he could.
There aren’t very many weeds in the walkways this year. But I did find this heart’s ease, aka Johnny Jump-Up, in between 2 well used chipmunk holes. If there’s any honesty volunteers, they will be the first to flower, but the heart’s ease is right behind them.
This is the Attar of Roses geranium that nearly died last summer. It lives in the south window of the old office on the second floor.
No one besides Tom will be here on Wednesday and he will be in his little office upstairs all morning. I hope to get the laundry put away and finish the bills/budget stuff. There’s all the closing out of 2022 to do still.
