The growing hand

You have to do your own growing no matter how tall your grandfather was.

- Abraham Lincoln -

I'm pretty sure my hand is not growing, but I use my hands to do my growing...I mean my fruits and vegetables and other general plants I have in my garden; it's one of those things in life which brings me happiness and contentment. When I'm working in my garden, or out there enjoying it, I feel at peace with where I am at that given moment and comfortable knowing my toil will repay me right then and when I get to enjoy the results of my effort down the track.

A few days ago I cleaned out my vegetable garden beds of the left-overs from winter growing. There's one cauliflower, just visible in one of the images below, left over, snow pea vines (still producing), some spinach and my eggplant however other than that...empty and ready for the next planting.

you are a fucken wanker (2).jpg

After some initial soil preparation I began to plant out a few things including sweet mama capsicums, continental cucumbers, some lettuce and a few herbs. I have more to plant out but wanted to get these started as soon as possible. The images here show them moments after planting so not at their best, but a few days later (now) they're looking pretty healthy and are growing well.

I've also had some tomatoes growing in pots for a short time and they're looking great and getting taller. I installed some climbing frames on them which will allow me to train them upwards and outwards which will promote more produce and I'm looking forward to a great crop. I've always had a lot of success with tomatoes so I see no reason to expect anything less.

you are a fucken wanker (3).jpg

My herbs are in a moveable pot so will end up living near my kitchen where I can pick what I need as I'm cooking. I have thyme, mint, coriander and rosemary in addition to those you see above, they're what I tend to cook with most.

I'll admit to heading out there daily and tending my garden, I like to be there of course, but I also like to keep a close eye on things, watch the growth and talk to them a little as that encourages growth...Sure, I eventually eat the buggers, but that's ok, they don't mind. That regular attention helps my garden stay in great shape and means I don't lose much through neglect as I'm on top of any issues quickly. It also means I don't have to spend hours at a time catching up (mostly) - a little effort, more often, is my style and my garden responds in kind.

How's your garden coming along? I don't think it matters if one has a large or small garden, a set of pots on the balcony or patio or simply a herb pot on the kitchen window sill, turning one's hand towards growing things brings personal enjoyment and happiness, in my humble opinion anyway. What about you? What's worked out, what hasn't and what have you currently got growing, or what would like to grow? Feel free to comment, I'd love to hear from you and will respond.

So far our mini garden at home has grown well. My husband takes care of the plants every day. He keeps on checking the plants twice a day.

I think constant effort is a great way to keep things at their best as leaving it could mean plants decline to the point of dying or simply not being at their best. It sounds like your husband has the right idea about it and that your garden is going well because of it.

that's true. I've been sharing here the garden of my husband and how he manage to take of his garden even if he has a daily job

The time we dedicate to our garden is worth gold and the most rewarding thing is when you start to get the results of that hard work. Your plantations look like they are on the right track. Greetings @galenkp

I think everything is well on track and I'm looking forward to a great harvest soon, it's always nice when harvest time comes around, a reward for the hard work.

Do you have a garden and if so what do you grow?

When we put in good time in anything we do, the products are usually more than gold to us. His planting are all doing well and I just love the way he spends his time with his plants

and talk to them a little as that encourages growth...

You've talked to your plants, and they're out there talking to theirs too.
Do you believe in that, or is it just a form of our concern for them and our hope that they will give more than they can give us to harvest?

I believe in it which is why I talk to them, they rarely answer but sometimes it have some great conversations; it's amazing how plants think. 😉

When I read that part, I became curious as to how one would communicate to plants and still feel it's fine as it's good for the plant. Sir please how do you communicate with them and do they actually reply or gives you sign that they understand what you're saying

Are you sure they don't mind? It's always assumed plants can't possibly have feelings because they have different systems and structures to animals but a lot of them also have defences against getting eaten so one has to wonder ;D

I think I've mentioned before that the garden is mostly J's domain, but right now it's pretty overgrown with grass as he hasn't had the time to get out there and deal with it. I'm not sure what's going on with it at the moment, the latest is we got home earlier and the chickens had gotten into one of the smaller patches and eldest complained that they'd killed everything.

we are still at loggerheads about containing the chickens

Do tomatoes grow like weeds over there? J said that where he grew up you could throw a tomato really hard at the wall and end up with a billion more tomatoes. Though I guess if you don't like the wild garden look it might not be the best method XD

They tend to grow very well, the climate suits them and I have a bit of a skill for it I guess, I'm very happy with how they have worked out. I'm not into the wild garden look for my vegetables, I like a bit of order, but I let plants do what they want to, just within the boundaries of my garden beds.

Hopefully J can get our there and get something happening, it sounds like you have a reasonable amount of room and it's a shame to see it go to waste, not get used for production of some good stuff your family could enjoy.

I'm growing eggplants and okras nowadays. You've got a very fertile soil there sir and the plants with their labels look so cute! This reminds me of my garden at school which I will start a new one by next week.

Happy Planting sir! Wishing you abundance and a good harvest!

I like eggplant and generally have some growing all the time...the climate here is good for them. I've eaten okra, but never grown it, is it difficult?

Okra is easy to grow up. Just sow the seeds directly into the loam soil, and after a few weeks, start to sprout. Water is enough to make it grow faster.

I'm not a fan of okra to be honest, I don't like eating it although, if I was going to starve and that's all there was, I'd eat it.

Yeah the plants are actually looking cute. Do you grow your okras in a pot or directly on the ground. Egg plants? I will go check for it as I haven't heard of it before. Thank you for saying it as I now know one new plant again

There's nothing more satisfying when living on a house to build your small (or big) garden just around the corner, see everything grow because of you and then get rewarded with all you need. I swear.

It is such an enjoyable process, or so I find. From start to finish when the flowers or vegetables are harvested, or just when out there with nature, I get a feeling of comfort and satisfaction, and eating produce I've grown myself is rewarding.

Oh wow, it’s admirable to know that a man likes you @galenkp loves gardening because it's very rare for men to like this hobby.🥰
By the way, the soil seems so good for planting this time they look healthy and for sure with the magic of your green thumb everything will thrive well. My garden here is doing well but we are preparing for this rainy season I hope it won’t get worse so we can still have good harvests. Wish you all the luck for a good harvest Galen.

it’s admirable to know that a man likes you loves gardening because it's very rare for men to like this hobby

I do many things and tend to follow my own lead on them, meaning I do what I like to do and ignore any stigmas that may exist around those activities. I've been gardening my whole life, I was brought up in a rural area, a small farming town, and am a country boy...so I'm just doing what I know I guess.

What things have you got planted out in your garden? What do you grow and is it for personal use of do you sell it?

Oh, that explains everything. So I have a lot like eggplant, okras, string beans, spinach, lemongrass, tomatoes, and many more so far this is for our personal use only but if neighbors ask to buy some I just give them anyway.

That's great, you have so much growing. I've had a few failures, things that haven't gone as well as others, how about you?

Thanks, so far vegetables are doing well, father-in-law is taking good care of them while I’m away for work but most of my ornamental plants died, most of the tubers disappeared due to less care. Anyway I already accepted the failure because I know how delicate plants if not properly taking care of. I just plant and plant and just don't mind the failures.

Failures happen, especially if things aren't cared for.

One awesome thing about the Hive GArden community is the variety of gardens - there's a heap of people doing an amazing job with a little garden on a patio! So impressive.

I think you're definitely warmer than us and probably already well into Spring - this weekend is incredible but we have some cold nights - tomatoes won't be in til cup day! I guess you've got a bit of a microclimate in your back garden as well. I just posted a gardening update if you'd like to see what is going on here, but I reckon I could knock out another one today as tehre is SO much going on!

We can't all have large allotments and gardens I guess, the reason I asked people to respond no matter how they do their gardening, or on what scale. No matter how it's done, there's rewards to be found.

It was 26 today, and yeah it's warming up quickly with nights that are not as cold and a few degrees warmer during the day, loads of sun helps. My garden is designed specifically for my situation here, I mentioned the raised beds a long time ago, and I always plant things that I know will work out, are suited. It's all going well. One day I might show some photos showing the whole ting, but I'm reluctant to show my house too much so have not to date.

It's addictive, isn't it? Once you see the benefits you look forward to getting out there and planting something. That's okay, don't share your entire life on HIVE, haha - I'm sure, like me, you are only showing the tip of the iceberg!

I really love the people in Phillipines or parts of Asia that are making do with very little money, the people who live in cities and only have a balcony - these Hive gardeners show their persistance, resilience, and passion for gardening and see much success. They're some of my favourites! And I love the Phillipino garden initiative in schools - that's pretty cool as well.

I remember being a kid of around five years old helping with the vegetable gardens, the orchards and animals at home with my parents. It was a good introduction to it and the lessons I learned, the love for gardening but more so for the process of putting my hand to things, actively working towards creating something through effort, skill and knowledge, has stuck with me throughout my life. That's why I am who I am I guess, at least it's partly responsible.

Being prepared, for whatever I can be prepared for, brings confidence and comfort, and gardening is part of that, as is many other things I do with my time and while yes, like you say, I only show the tip of the iceberg here, those things are incredibly important to me; I'll not go as far as say, define me, but they are certainly intrinsic.

people who live in cities and only have a balcony

Gardening can happen anywhere, it's the scale that changes.

I think if we have good memories of gardens as kids, we return full circle to that. My german Nana had an awesom green thumb - I still feel myself close to her when I garden!

Man having a garden like that is my dream. Maybe that's why I used so many hours in stardew valley.

I would like to know your opinion on something. I heard from Sadhguru that he was bringing attention to something about "Ground exhaustion". This is; he explained, that commercial farming doesn't let the floor rest enough or nurture it with organic materials so it is said fruits and vegetables are now only 20% nutrient dense thant they were before forcing people to take supplements. Have you heard about it? or do you know is a thing when you take care of your garden?

Yes, farmers generally let the land go fallow for a period, and also plant alternate crops as well otherwise the plants can extract the nutrients and subsequent crops fail. I do this with my own vegetable garden beds and spend a lot of time preparing the soil as I mentioned in this post. It's important for a good crop and healthy produce.

What would you plant if you have the ability?

Tomatoes. Just imagine doing a pizza with your own tomatoes! And so much more. Is one of the most useful fruits I know of. Thanks for your insight. I guess the best survival move of the future is to have your own garden.

I love tomatoes and eating my own is even better.. the ones from the supermarket don't tend to have much taste. My own are bloody amazing!

Interesting. I wonder if that means Sadhguru was right. Taste means more nutrient density right? How lovely 🧡

I have no idea, I guess you'll have to research it and see; I'm sure there's some merit to it though.

People who take time out of their lives to grow their food, either out of necessity or simply because they feel satisfied growing and creating their own food, they should be multiplied by millions because there is no better work than planting with our own hands these foods that many times we have a neglected idle piece of land where we can put a small orchard. In this way, we are not only stocking up on foods rich in minerals such as vegetables, but we are also finding peace with ourselves and the satisfaction of create something good with our hands. My father @elflaco52 is one of these people, behind the house he has a piece of land where he grows bananas, corn, beans, spinach, cassava, tomatoes, etc. Many times I help him from there we supply ourselves for our own personal consumption, although on occasions we sell a little to the occasional neighbor. Greetings to you and may your plants grow strong and healthy.

It's great that your effort can result in a little income now and then. I barter a lot of mine for things I don't personally produce and it is always fun to swap something I've grown with someone who has produced the other item like eggs, honey, fruits and vegetables I don't grow and such things.

hanks for taking the time to comment and maybe you'll be able to do a post in this community about your garden (dad's garden) sometime,

It seems like a good idea to me so maybe I'll be encouraged by a post about our little garden. Greetings from Cuba.

All the best for your day today, I hope things are well for you and generally for you folks in Cuba.

We also have a garden and we have a few fruit bearing trees. Lime, Bilimbi, Soursop, Apple Mange, and Guava are the ones we have. It is always nice when we harvest a lot of these fruits. It is also very fulfilling when we give a lot away and people are excited in receiving them. I'm not too fond of sour fruits, so I am mostly in charge of monitoring and harvesting them.

As for vegetables, we were able to grow bok choy and water spinach from cutting the ones bought in grocery. We can theoretically do it in a cycle, but the plants eventually die off after a while. The amount of pests like snails and root rot are also a big problem.

We also have a lot of ornamental plants. I tried growing rubber plants, but the leaves doesn't get larger. I am left with a lot of small leaves, and it just looks like a regular bush haha

very fulfilling when we give a lot away and people are excited in receiving them

I do some of this too, although I tend to swap them for things like honey, eggs, olives and so on, things I don't grow or produce myself; it's a good system a few friends and I have.

It seems like you have a reasonable array of plants and that's nice I think, do you get enjoyment out of the process of growing?

It seems like you have a reasonable array of plants and that's nice I think, do you get enjoyment out of the process of growing?

Yes I do, especially when it's a vegetable that I like eating. I don't like sour fruits, and I just monitor and harvest them my family. That one feels a bit like a chore, but it is worth it when they get excited while eating it.

swap them for things like honey, eggs, olives and so on

That's like barter trading, and it sounds really nice. Unfortunately it's not possible with us. We live in the city and not a lot of people have gardens, and most don't really grow their own things.

Exactly like bartering, that's the word we use for it; I have a group of people around me that are actively engaged in it and I have quite a lot to bater also, my fruits and vegetables and the kangaroo and deer meat I shoot regularly which is super expensive to buy. I end up getting a lot of what I need for it and am really pleased with how the system works, as are the others who barter with me.

Oh that's really cool. Especially since you are being paid to get the kangaroo and deer meat. Since that is super expensive, I think it is in your trade partner's interest to keep it going. This looks like a very healthy relationship. Congrats.

I wish I had a piece of land where I could indulge in some gardening as well! Your herbs appear to be flourishing beautifully 😍

Here, I'm growing Spring Onions for our personal use, as my wife and I love their flavor in our meals!

That looks like a legit way of growing some spring onions. What I like with growing is that the enjoyment is the same no matter of what scale it's done. Well done.

Haha yeah this is a method that I came up with myself after some trial and error.

Effortlessly clean since I'm not using any soil, just the right amount of size since there are space constraint as well in my apartment 😅

It's amazing how even one small plant can bring enjoyment; the beauty of nature.

Yeah exactly! Really is the fruits of our labor ✌️

I think your garden is very large. So many plants and vegetables in it.
If we talk about mine, the little garden, it has a pomogranate, onions, mint and a lemon small tree. Thats all about that.
But even though it is small, still i am happy to have a look at that.
It really brings a joy to me.

Gardening brings a certain amount of enjoyment and can be peaceful also; it's good that you've got a few things and get to enjoy the process of growing.

Yup. I really enjoy watering+cleaning them whenever i am home.

That looks awesome. I'm sure it'll be an even greater haul now that you're on the verge of summer! That's a good feeling, seeing the growing edibles happening.

I had a haul of tomatos this year. Had some cucumbers growing which kept getting gnawed on by local wildlife. Eh. I suppose it needs to be eaten by something. At least they didn't rot, but I'll need to find an aesthetically pleasing way to fence them off next year.

Spring is first, and that'll deliver a nice harvest, some tomatoes among them but throughout the summer time is when the best harvests will come...if I can keep things going through the worst of the heat...it gets very hot here. It'll work out though, I'm well set up for it.

Too bad about your cucumber crop...you'll have to find some critter-mitigation techniques.

Hello dear friend, you know that tomatoes are good for me, hahahaha.🤣
Well as I told you a few days ago I am in the city and I have no garden at home but I am already creating the conditions to plant in pots on the roof. I already had some cherrys like this and they did great. Winter is coming here, practically invisible, but it helps the lettuces to keep better. I would like to put a few in knobs. Let's see if I have the time, I'm starting art school this week. I hope to be able to do something at the weekends. 👋

I know a few people who do their vegetable gardens in pots and even though having limited room and ability to grow in volume, they enjoy the process and that's the most important thing I think.

All the best with your future planting and I hope things go well for your return to school.

Yes, the point is to do something and enjoy it. I have a tree here so I'm not complaining. Thanks for the good wishes.🙏❤️

😉 Have a nice Sunday.

❤️✨

It is wonderful it can sow the products for our feeding. To see them it grow is a benediction. In my house my father taught how to my brother and today he sows many plants for the familiar feeding. In a small piece of earth it has rice, lie, quimbombó and sweet potatoes. I believe that I am about to teach you the plantations in a post. Thanks for sharing

It sounds like you have a few things going on in your garden, that's great! I hope you nurture them well and you have a bountiful harvest.

And even when everything that is planned in the garden, in the orchard blooms, and germinates, that's how our internal waters are, Galen, We have to keep sowing, watering, caring for, and harvesting... always perseverant, it is invaluable work.

And just as sowing has its time and demands, the harvest will be pleasant 🙌 Galen.

Good night to you.

I agree, it requires constant attention and I don't mind, it is a good process, it's wholesome and feeds the soul.

I hope you've had a good weekend.

Thanks, Galen and today is Sunday morning, It's hot even though it's been drizzling since 5 a.m., I'm still going to relax in the garden I have some very beautiful blooming cayennes, they're smiling at me.

I rarely manage to grow lettuce. I don't know what is the reason.... There is nothing complicated about this plant. Sometimes I feel like it just doesn't love me))

Lol...no lettuce love? That's a shame. Did you talk to it? I mean, plants grow better when we talk to them. Give it a try.

Although, it may be the climate or type of lettuce you're trying. Maybe hit the nursery up for some pro-tips as you may need to add something to the soil.

Thanks for stopping by, when my lettuce is being eaten, I'll hoist a piece of it in your honour.

Cheers.

Even if we only use pots to plant vegetables at home, we're able to harvest and save a small amount of money. I am amazed you're into gardening as well. It seems that you're good at taking care of the plants and have a green thumb.

I am amazed you're into gardening as well

I don't do it for money, it's the enjoyment that means more to me, and I get a lot of that. A few have said they're surprised I'm into gardening which is a little odd to me...here in Australia it's a very common thing and so many actively engage with gardening. It's one of my most enjoyable hobbies.

Anyway, thanks for taking a read and the time to comment, I appreciate that.

How beautiful is your garden, and what beautiful things you plant, I love tomatoes, peppers.... Did I see wrong or do you have basil? I love its aroma and flavour.

I will talk about this moment because years ago I had a bit of everything. Now I have mostly decorative and indoor plants and they are super nice. I had basil but it is seasonal and dried up when it came to an end. I have rosemary, I made it from a pruning... and it grew very nicely, with the intense heat wave... well it affected it a little bit but I will resurface it haha. I have cactus plants.

Don't laugh but I have catnip hahaha my babies love it, they eat it very quickly, and when I take Tony for a walk I bring some for Catalina.

I love your garden! Pumpkin do you have or will you plant? I love it!😀

I have basil yeah, I cook with it a lot and rosemary also. As for pumpkin, I love it, but I can't eat it too much, too high in carbohydrates, so I don't grow it. I used to though, what's called butternut pumpkin. tasty! I eat so little of it though, that I prefer to give the space to things I eat more of.

I have catnip also, Cleo loves it, and I grow a special cat grass for her also.

You're right, but squash is sweet.... is a problem, but there is a small squash we call it in Argentina, or zucchini for stuffing, which is round and all green. It's not sweet and you have no idea how delicious it is stuffed with meat.... an idea hahaha one of the foods I like the most. Here in Spain I don't get it....

Rosemary oil is ideal for muscle aches and pains. I like medicinal herbs very much.

Zucchini works, I had them in my last planting and eat them a few times a week, purchased now as I don't have any growing right now. I tend to stay away from vegetables that are high in carbs like potatoes, corn, pumpkin, sweet potato and limit carrots and peas as they're a little higher in sugars. It's not that I can't have them, but I prefer to limit them.

I was out looking at my fruit trees today...so many almonds growing, and grapefruit, oranges, lemons and the satsuma plum tree is looking like having a good year. It's all looking awesome.

So, soon to be published on fruit trees, right? How beautiful are the almond trees, and I love citrus fruits, especially mandarins and oranges.

You know? In Argentina we make mate with grapefruit hahaha I'm a big fan of mate.🤣

Here's a snap I took this afternoon, one of my almond trees.

20230903_172853.jpg

Today I drove a few hundred kilometres to visit an open garden (private garden) which is only open on one weekend a year, and this weekend was the last ever. I'll have a post coming up at some stage, managed to get a reasonable image or two. I also took some snaps of some silo art which I'll share at some stage. It was a nice day, picnic lunch and good tunes in the car as I drove. Amazing weather too.

I hope your weekend has been good so far.

How beautiful is that almond tree, it reminds me of someone who taught me a lot of what I know about gardening!

Beautiful weekend then, I'll wait for those shots, I'm sure they'll be beautiful!

The simplest things are the most beautiful things in life, like good music and a picnic, I'm so glad!

I've had better weekends... I'm sure the next one will be better, nothing that can't be solved. Thanks Galen🤗

Fruit and nut trees are the best. I will need to try Almond next. Not sure if they will grow here in Canada

Hi, 👋🏼 this gardening project I need to get going. I have plenty of space for planting things. In fact in my backyard I already have three mango trees, two soursop trees, a coconut tree, as well as bananas and guavas. All planted by me and they provide me with those tasty fruits throughout the year, whenever their seasons come.

These are my germinated passion fruit plants and rosemary.

IMG_20230903_140955.jpg

But this weekend I am not much in Hive.... Now I' am drinking 🍺 😉.

IMG_20230903_142659.jpg

Soursop...we call it a custard apple here...same thing though.

Soon, you'll be able to add passionfruit to your list of produce, so good on vanilla ice cream. 😀

I hope you've been having a good weekend with your family.

The custard apple is smooth on the outside, and the soursop has little spikes on the outside. And they don't taste the same. Let me see if I can find a picture of a soursop.
I hope you had a good weekend too.
Thanks G.

In my garden I have everything, banana, lemon, cherry, guava, mango. It is very nice to go out to the patio, as we Cubans say, and eat a delicious fresh and sweet mango on a hot day. I think it is wonderful that you have your garden and that you enjoy it, I think you have something that everyone should master, at least for your own consumption.

Greetings

You have a good selection of fruits in your garden, is it a lot of work to maintain for you or does it mostly look after itself?

Mangoes are such a tasty fruit. We grow it a lot here in the tropical north of the country and they're widely available. They're difficult to grow where I am though.

I like my garden and the time I spend our there is important to me as it helps relax me, makes me feel at peace and, if course, I like the process of planting, nurturing and harvesting my own produce. You may have the same feelings considering you have plenty of fruits trees.

Tha ks for your comment.

The truth is that they do not give much work, just a little watering in dry weather and fertilizing.

Little work, a lot of enjoyment. It sounds great! 😀

I don't have any plant growing for me because I'm not yet settle to start planting them. I would love to get most plants that would be of great help while cooking in my garden. How do you feel when you grow your plants in pots? Never thought plants will grow well in the pot as I only see my parents growing everything called plant in a good loamy soil. How do you get a better soil for your growing plants? Do plants in pots still looks fresh like those planted directly to the ground? It really nice seeing how good your garden looks and how you talk about communicating to your plants in the garden. You mentioned how one can use his window as a garden for his or her plants, how will it looks like.

How do you feel when you grow your plants in pots?

It depends on the plant and the pot it is in. Some will not respond well to being potted as they have larger root systems, so I tend to make sure the plant I have potted is going to be suited to it and have not had any issues.

How do you get a better soil for your growing plants?

This depends on the plant as some like different soil qualities, more or less acidic etc. I make sure there's loads of earthworms, use manure and seaweed extracts, many different things depending on the needs of the plants.

Do plants in pots still looks fresh like those planted directly to the ground?

Yes.

You mentioned how one can use his window as a garden for his or her plants, how will it looks like.

Imagine a window sill, now imagine small pots with plants in them sitting on the window sill.

Wow
You're really good at this work.well done 🙌🙌🙌

It is comforting to know that what you do has its due rewards.
Knowing that what you do with your hands will be reflected in actions gives satisfaction.
I look forward to the future harvest 🥕🌶️

Es reconfortante saber que lo uno hace tiene su debida cosecha
Saber lo que haga con las manos se verá reflejado en acciones da satisfacción
Espero la futura cosecha 🌶️🥕🥦

It's important to feel there is a reward from the things we do, even if that reward is happiness.

There is nothing more satisfying than having the effort pay off.

Planting is really helps and relieving stress! especially if it already bears fruit😆

I agree, the effort of gardening repays a person right from the beginning.

Wow, these so good , I like the fact that you live natural plants and grooming them yourself gives you this kind of joy watching them grow, it's been known that eating naturally grown stuffs like this aids good health compared to the ones with fartilizer manuring, or all those can foods, it's good and it very healthy too

Nice one

Home grown produce is much better than store purchased produce in my opinion, I know what has gone into it, no chemicals, and have the advantage of being involved all the way from start to finish.

talk to our own plants,,, that's what I often do to mine. I often tell my plants that they are growing well.

They like to be spoken to, and I enjoy talking to them too, I find it relaxing.

I like your garden culture, my dear, @galenkp

Cheers, I appreciate you saying so.

You have to do your own growing no matter how tall your grandfather was.

Loved this quote <3 It's wonderful. Everyone in their life should realize that the inherited property or money is not worth it. You need to work hard to achieve your success/earning.

Ea h of us are our own person and need to find out own way forward. It's a good quote for sure.

vegetables okay. Nice to meet you @galenkp

Awesome. Everything I planted was eaten by critters… especially rabbits. They are very clever … the only thing I seem to grow are apples. Thousands and thousands of apples. I planted 2 dwarf apple trees 20 years ago. Empire and Golden Delicious and now I get over 1 thousand apples from each tree. All organic. No pesticides, no chemicals. I sell them by the bushel (125 apples per bushel) … the Flowers in May are incredible. Lots of bees though. I guess I should try to make some honey next. I’m thinking of building a Hive ... 🐝

Man that's awesome...and that's a lot of apples. I have two apple trees but I'm not getting anywhere near your harvest, I'd not know what to do with them if I did for sure.

I wonder if it's worth looking into making apple cider, you'll have enough apples for it!

Great photos, thanks for commenting.

Many years ago I started posting them for sale on Kijiji (like EBay in Canada) … at 1st selling them to Horse farms and Deer Hunters… $20 a bushel… but then a guy with a Dairy Cow offered me $60 a bushel. So I sell them to him now. He wanted all-Organic Empire apples … His cow loves them. And he tells me it makes the milk, cheese and butter taste better. ???

That's pretty good revenue, and the milk and cheese? Hmm, now I'm curious to know if the apples would make a difference; logic says it would although I'm not certain. Another thing I need to research.

The apples are just so nice and looking beautiful ☺️☺️☺️. Apples are expensive and you're talking about getting 1000 apples from one of your Apple trees. The product of your work 20years ago are actually paying you off now. Well done for the work ☺️☺️☺️
