Garden Update - Day 87

in HiveGarden4 months ago

Hello Everyone,

It's been a couple of weeks since the last garden update, and a lot has been happening since then.

Let's have a look at the plants.

The Cherokee tomatoes are the last to ripen, but they were planted a few weeks after the other plants. Their overall size is looking kind of small which is a little disappointing, but overall they look healthy and I'm hoping they turn the beautiful purple color that they are supposed to when the ripening comes.

There's plenty of ripe tomatoes on both sides of the garden. The beefsteak tomatoes have finally started ripening and they are quite large. The smaller one's on the right are very mid size, between a cherry tomato and full size, and their flavor is better than the beefsteak in my opinion. They have a slightly sweeter taste.

The squash have been producing round after round, and they are all healthy and beautiful.

Even this here mutated squash looks pretty tasty to me. It looks sort of like conjoined twins right?

And how about this skinny long cucumber! What a strange looking cucumber!

I decided to hang these cucumbers up on the fence and it worked out advantageously. We can see all kinds of health issues on the foliage though and this is probably why the cucumbers are growing strange.

Last in the garden is this beautiful eggplant that has been growing slowly but surely. Nothing has bothered it and I'm hoping it grows to full size with no issues. I'm also hoping we see more than just this single eggplant from the two plants growing.

I haven't seen any peppers on the few pepper plants back there that made it, and am not really expecting to see any, which at this point I'm pretty ok with. Maybe next year I'll do better with the peppers.

Overall I'm super happy with everything. This has been a great success of a first garden outdoors. Sure there's some issues here and there, but the fact that I've already had multiple meals from this garden is awesome and I'd say the squash and tomatoes are what made this garden the success that it is.

Let's take a peek at the aloe farm.

I couldn't be happier with how the aloes are coming along. I have to start thinking about taking the current pups from the pot in the center soon. Right now I'm low on supplies but I'll figure that out soon enough. The aloes are generally patient.

The bamboo plants over there on the left are pretty happy too and gaining more and more vegetation every day.

Ceropegia Woodii - Variegated - Pink String Of Hearts

I decided to take some clippings from my string of hearts box yesterday because I enjoy cloning succulents.

IMG_20240722_012426231.jpg

I discovered a while ago that cloning this succulent is very easy because the vine seems to easily shoot roots, and it also has the propensity to grow new offshoots in different directions at node sites as it grows.

This gave me the idea to throw them in this box in an attempt to overgrow the box with the succulent. I would say this experiment was a success, and now I can create lots of clones from this box.

The vine on my arm is connected down in the box and I am not pulling it tightly. It's quite long and still growing.

The pink string of hearts is a beautiful succulent but it requires lots of light to maintain the attractive colors. Looking closely at the new growth shows the result of less light, the plant will go to more yellow and green in an attempt to photosynthesize better, and it will also etiolate (stretch) when this happens, making node spacing longer (undesirable) So it's best to keep it in direct sunlight or under intense light indoors.

That will do it for this garden update. Expect an update on the Crack Mack cannabis plant soon! She's growing like a weed!

What do you all think of how the plants are looking?

I'd love to read your thoughts in the comment section!

Thank you for stopping by!

Have a good day! -@futuremind
