Here is my most recent update for the monthly #hivegarden #gardenjournal organised by @riverflows
I just started 'gardening' a few weeks ago and I have lots to learn, but I really enjoy it already. Even despite the fact that fall isn't the best time to start 😄
Broccoli
My last update is from three weeks ago. I just moved the broccoli seedling into the garden.
A couple of them do very well and some others stay relatively small. I'm still waiting to spot the real broccoli in the center of the plants, but until now they don't show up.
I didn't tie the plants that well with a rubber band, so two of them fell over. The stems were still intact, so I hope they will continue growing. The broken egg shells and coffee bean residue might have helped to protect the leaves from being eaten.
Blueberry
The blueberry plant is doing well too. This unlike one we had before. I've placed it in a border in a sunny spot and added sour soil around it. We didn't do that with the plant we had before.
I also drop some coffee bean residue near the plant sometimes to keep the soil a bit sour.
The light green coloured leaves are all new. It has grown over 10 centimeters already.
Sowing seeds
And then the newest project; I've planted some seeds after my last blog. It was actually a bit too late to plant some seeds since It's autumn already, but I didn't like the idea of having nothing growing in my backyard while we just had started. So we just gave it a try.
We bought some carrots seeds. I had never seen it before, but they were embedded in a paper ribbon. We just had to roll out the ribbon and cover it with a bit of soil.
The benefit of this method is that the carrots are divided over the lengt of the ribbon at the perfect distance. After a few days already we saw little plants peeking out of the soil.
In the second row of our vegetable garden we've planted cauliflower. These were planted with seeds and also showed up in just over a week or so.
In the last few rows we planted beetroot. And also these are showing up. It's such a lovely sight; all the tiny plants. Let's hope they will grow bigger and bigger in a few weeks.
The trees
I've extended the frames of both the the almond and the apple tree so I can guide the new branches to the sides. The upper part of the almond tree needs to expand a bit more. I really wonder if it will give us almonds next year.
The Topaz apple tree still looks a bit thin, but the branches really stretch out. I also have added another bamboo stick on the top here. We're still waiting to buy another apple tree.
Raspberries
A week ago I picked the last couple of raspberries from our bush. It had given us loads of fresh and sweet raspberries over the last couple of months. A delicious addition to my muesli breakfast.
And although all the raspberries are gone, the plant keeps on reproducing itself. New plant keep popping up.
Hivegarden Discord channel?
Before I end my October garden update I want to make a suggestion. As a beginning gardener I have a lot of questions. For now I always use Google to find the answers, but I've also noticed that there are a lot if experienced gardeners in this community.
Many other communities have a Discord channel where members of the community can socialize and also ask questions.
What do you think of the idea to create a Discord channel for the Hivegarden community?
I'm willing to help setting one up if you like the idea @riverflows
Just let me know 😊

Wow Moose, these plants of yours are great! I can't believe how much your blueberry has grown, it looks super happy. Well done on getting seeds to grow in the inbetween season, that's impressive, I hope you manage to get a harvest from them (you can take them inside when it gets cold). Really nice seeing your almond tree has grown as well.
Yeah, I didn't expect that from the blueberry. Especially since the last one hardly did anything. That shows how important good and nutrient soil is.
I also hope we can harvest some of the crops. I don't have that the space to move them inside, so if it gets too cold it will be a failed experiment 😄
But we'll learn from that too.
Thanks for visiting my blog!
excellent, what beautiful raspberries.
thanks for sharing.
greetings😃
Thank you!
Very nice, @friendlymoose
There is nothing as good home grown.

Great work! I would be interested to see how the broccoli comes along, its one of my favorites.
Thanks! Me too. Stay tuned for the next update :)
It is so great to see other people's gardens and it inspires me to keep working on my own! Those raspberries look great! Looking forward to seeing how your garden develops!
The other gardens here surely did inspire me too. Thanks for stopping by!
I love brocolli!
Your garden is looking great. I hope you will be able to have a nice harvest before it is too cold. I have moved my bell pepper plants into my living room. I feel as though the dutch weather would retard any further fruit development. THus far the plants are thriving in my living room.
I like the Discord idea.
Thanks! I hope we will still get some sunny days. I can't move it all inside like you did.
Until now you're the only one reacting on the Discord idea 😄👍
Oh I only move the bell peppers - nothing else. I hope others will respond re Discord.
Aww. I so miss having a garden. Thank you for sharing !!!
Your garden looks great. You have some fantastic eating ahead of you.
