After two days of cutting weeds, removing dead branches and tidying things up, the garden was almost descent. Nothing like it used to be when it had a full time gardener tending the trees, planting vegetables, keeping the weeds under control etc, etc, etc.
But coming here only twice each year, that's the best I can do. At least it doesn't look totally abandoned or even forsaken!
This is not my garden. It never was, although I have spend a lot of time in it, since my childhood and I have learned my first lessons in gardening right here. Long before those pomegranate trees were even planted.
But I do remember the vines always been there, hanging on the fence around the garden. I haven't eaten from those vines for ages but I still remember the taste of many of them!
As well as the small (but delicious) apples of the apple tree.
As I said, this is not my garden.
This is my grandfather's garden. Or should I say, was. My grandfather passed away but the trees he planted are still here to pretty up the garden and bless us with their fruits.
Tending this garden, apart from the obvious service for my parents and my grandmother that spend their summer there, is also a tribute to the memory of the man that created it, my very personal memorial service.
Although I know that he would disagree strongly with many of my practices, if he was alive :)
Now the rightful owner is my grandmother and she is more into flowers! Messing with dirt and planting vegetables was never her thing. But flowers and succulents are :)
The last pictures are from outside the house. The oleander hedge, that I am not very fond of it as a plant but I have to admit that it makes an excellent fence, a couple of conifers and the view from the balcony, just to give you an idea of what our "neighbourhood" looks like :)
This is my delayed contribution to the June Garden Journal Challenge that expired a few hours ago!
Sorry @owasco and @minismallholding. In my defence I can say that I am traveling and things are not always going as planned :)
All the pictures and the words are mine.
Thank you for reading and if you want to know more about me you can check out my introduction post.

This post made me so happy. Since I got to know you in this place I really love when you go back and share pictures. Thank you and Beautiful!
I know what you mean. We often associate people with a specific place and it is weird to see them in a different environment!
Thank you :)

Hello dear. How nice what I see. I understand what you say about your grandfather. It's similar to me, although my tribute is not to a grandfather (which I would have liked). My tribute is to the land itself. I also have my parents' house with a large plot of land, and I have been living in the city for some time for work and studies. Although here it is different because I am relatively close, the time does not give me enough time to maintain the garden that I have longed for. That saddens me sometimes, I would like to be full time or have a clone of me to do it.😂 😅
I think it's great that you dedicate some time to it.😍
What are those practices that your grandfather would disagree with?😂🤣
What a nice thing to say. Gardening or farming or whatever related should always be a tribute to the land!
Haha, you noticed that small line :)
Well my grandfather grew up in a poor family doing farm-work from a very young age, out of necessity. When the chemical fertilisers and pesticides come in Greece, he saw them as the answer to many of his troubles. And he remained a huge fan of them till the end. Myself I have no interest in working with the land if it is to be done through chemicals. I'd rather not do it at all. So the practices that he would disagree are almost everything that natural farming or even permaculture stands for :)
Thank you very much for stopping by!
Your grandfather's garden is beautiful. Beautiful photos
I am glad you like it!
