Spring feelings in the middle of the winter

in HiveGarden2 years ago

Winter in Greece still didn’t start really and that is lovely for my garden, but I think it would be nice to have some frozen and snowy days.

We had a little frost some nights, but during the days it is really nice, around 14 – 16 degrees. Especially when we have the sun here, it feels so warm on my skin. There is no snow yet on top of the mountains like the previous years.

When the sky is colder than the sea....

Many Beautiful and sunny days we had

A real blessing for us

My garden @BabetterPlace and the trees around the area has still a lot to offer! We are never hungry.

From my garden I harvest daily broccoli, cauliflower, cabbages, beetroots, carrots and salads.

You will not believe me if I tell you I am still harvesting peppers from the garden, well it is true. They will not turn red anymore, but they are tasty anyway!

Also, my lemon tree bears fruit for the first year! It is amazing to see how strong the tree became over the last 4 years!

The same for my kiwi tree, the first time it gave me fruits! Many and very tasty.

Some weeks ago I planted the seeds from the broad beans in the soil, yesterday I saw they starting to sprout!

Beside harvesting I am also preparing the garden for a new season.
Cleaning out the old plants from last summer and the weeds. All will go in my compost place - so the earthworms can make a perfect soil for me.
In the picture you can see the results of the work they did.

All the empty fields I let rest for the wintertime and I have covered the soil with leaves to protect it. The leaves will rot during the winter and become healthy materials for the soil.

The paths in the garden I cleaned from the old wood chips that got rotten during the summer and Autumn, a perfect material to mix in the soil of the fields. In this way I enrich the soil as well and it is perfect food for my earthworms.

One of the secrets from good soil is to have many earthworms, and if you feed them proper with leaves, wood chips and other green materials, they keep working hard for you and keep your soil airy, fluffy and full of nutrients. Their poop, we can call it, ‘The black gold’, is full of nutrients.
The first year my soil was sandy and rocky, no earthworms to find. Nowadays it is full of them. Everywhere I find them, I even share them with my neighbors for their compost and gardens.

So next spring we will have better soil @BabetterPlace

At nights we are cozy inside our home, all animals around the fireplace, just like me. Feeling sleepy and tired after a day of work outside.

Lovely first photo. It is great that you are still harvesting. I have some kale and swiss chard but would love those lemons in your garden and kiwis too. Will the broad bean grow during your winter?

Yes, here are they planting them in the winter, and from April we can start harvesting.
It is wonderful that we have so much available

You're lucky to have such a good weather and be able to grow things in the garden. Winter in my country is much colder, so no gardening during winter.

I see you've been missing since September :) I hope to see you more active on Hive from now on.

Thank you, where are you located?
Yes it is very bad, since sept i lost my focus on writing. so much projects here, beside the garden
