Hello everybody,
In the last 2 posts I explained how Hyrule was created and the events that followed up till the events of Ocarina of Time, how there was a timeline split and explained about both Child Era timeline and Adult Era timeline.

This time I'll be talking about how things happened if Link is killed by Ganon during his final battle in Ocarina of Time.

  • Note that in an updated timeline from Nintendo, Link's Awakening comes before Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages.

Downfall Timeline

Link fails in defeating Ganon who kills him and takes both the Triforce of Wisdom and Courage from Link and Zelda. In a last ditch effort the seven sages seal Ganon and the full Triforce in the sacred realm. For a brief time, peace returns to Hyrule but the people know about the Triforce and entrance to sacred realm.

The Master Sword is never put into it's pedestal and the sacred realm gets corrupted by Ganon and turns into the Dark world. Anyone who dares step foot inside the realm is turned into a monster. Eventually, there are so much monsters that some start to enter Hyrule.

By the order of the King and the lives of countless Hylian soldiers the seven sages succeed in sealing the sacred realm completely. This leaves Hyrule vulnerable. In this timeline, the Zora, fish-like humanoids are now enemies of hylians and a hostile to everyone.

Legend of Zelda : A Link to the Past

A magical priest named Agahnim wants to break the seal to the sacred realm. He brainwashes the soldiers, kills the King and sacrifices the descendants of the seven sages, sending them into the sacred/dark realm. Zelda is planned to be sacrificed last. She sends a telepathic help plea, which is heard by Link and his uncle who are the last remaining Knights.

Link's uncle is murdered as soon as he enters the castle and it is(once again) up to Link to take Zelda to safety. He finds the Master Sword in the Lost Woods. Agahnim finds Zelda's hideout and sends her to the dark realm. This breaks the sage's seal.

Link heads to the dark realm as well but instead of turning to a monster, he turns into a pink bunny. Link goes on to rescue the descendants of the sages, defeats Agahnim and Ganon. He then finds the Triforce, which he uses to wish for peace to be restored, which resurrects the king and his uncle. Upon return he hands the Triforce to the royal family.

Legend of Zelda : Link's Awakening

After the events that occurred in the previous game, Link feels restless and goes looking for a challenge in a sailing trip. In his way back to Hyrule, an intense thunderstorm destroys his ship and he washes up on an island named Koholint.

He soon discovers that to leave the island there way only one way - wake up the wind fish. He also comes to know that this island was merely exists as the wind fish's dream. He still ends up waking the wind fish. The island ceases from existence and Link returns to Hyrule.

Legend of Zelda : Oracle of Ages/Seasons

Months later, Link returns to Hyrule. The twin witches known as Twinrowa need special flames to resurrect Ganon. They send Onox to Holodrum and Veran to Labrynna to wreak havoc and cause chaos.

Link is transported to Holodrum by the Triforce where he befriends a dancer named Din aka the Oracle of Seasons. Onox kidnaps her to disturb the seasons of Holodrum. Link defeats Onox and moves onto Labrynna.

There he finds that Nayru, the Oracle of Ages is possessed by Veran. Veran uses Nayru's time traveling abilities to possess the Queen and build an ominous tower. Link however has other plans and bests Veran and everything comes back to normal.

Regardless, both the flames of destruction and flames of sorrow have been lit and princess Zelda has been kidnapped by Twinrowa who plans on sacrificing Zelda to bring Ganon back. Link gets in the nick of time to stop Twinrowa who, on defeat, sacrifice themselves to resurrect Ganon.

Because the ritual was incomplete, Ganon comes back as a dummy and is easily defeated and vanquished by Link.

Legend of Zelda : A Link Between Worlds

Centuries later, the Triforce somehow splits into 3 parts and Triforce of Power goes to Ganon, who apparently is still not dead. Yuga, a wizard from another world Lorule shows up and turns all the descendants of the seven sages into paintings including princess Zelda. He uses their powers to bring back Ganon and they merge together to become an even bigger menace. Hyrule and Lorule are in chaos.

Link with the help of Lorule's princess, Hilda, rescues the seven sages, only to know that this whole scheme was Hilda's plan. Her motive to do this was to get(more like steal) the Triforce, as once even her world had a Triforce of it's own. Her people fearing it's power destroyed it but this brought chaos in her world.

Link defeats Yuga and Ganon, makes Hilda realise that she's wrong. Hilda then returns Link and Zelda to their world's sacred realm where they find the complete Triforce. They wish for the restoration of Lorule's Triforce, bring peace to both the worlds.

Legend of Zelda

Zelda 1.jpg

The Triforce is used by the royal family to bring peace and joy in the kingdom, when out of nowhere a king comes who thinks that the powers of the Triforce can be abused. He hides away the Triforce of Courage somewhere and only tells his daughter the true location of it. It also needs the king's special crest and spells to get it.

When the king dies, his son who comes into power discovers that the Triforce of Courage is missing. Upset with this, he sends his wizard friend to interrogate Zelda, who in his anger curses Zelda to eternal sleep. This makes Zelda's brother realise his wrongdoing and he makes a rule that all princesses that are born have to be named "Zelda"(apparently there were other princesses with other names than Zelda). Without the Triforce, the kingdom goes in decline.

Generations later, Ganon gets resurrected and gets the Triforce of Power. Princess Zelda then divides the Triforce of Wisdom into 8 pieces and hides all across Hyrule, before being captured by Ganon and his minions. A fleeing Impa, in search of a hero finds a traveller named, Link, who takes up the quest.

Link gathers the pieces of the Triforce of Wisdom and uses it to defeat Ganon, thus gaining the Triforce of Power as well.

Zelda II : Adventure of Link

Adventure of Link.jpg

Link hangs around to help rebuild Hyrule but Ganon's minions cause constant chaos. Also, there is a rumour that Ganon can be resurrected by sacrificing Link and sprinkling his blood on Ganon's ashes.

Time pass by, when Link gets a weird mark on his hand. He goes to Impa to seek advise on what it could be and Impa takes him to Zelda, who was cursed into endless sleep. It turns out, Link has the marking that can unseal the hidden location of Triforce of Courage, so Impa gives him a scroll that has the map that can take him to it.

Link sets out and finds the Triforce of Courage. He uses the complete Triforce in his possession and lifts the curse on Zelda. Link becomes too powerful for Ganon to resurrect and his minions can do nothing about it.

So that brings us to the end of the Downfall Timeline as well.

Every single canon game in the franchise, except Breath of the Wild has been placed in the Zelda timeline. Nintendo themselves have blatantly placed it at the end, not placing it connected to any of the timelines. So to tackle this I'll be soon posting a theory of mine about how Breath of the Wild is connected to all the timelines, and how a certain "non-canon" game should be canon to connect Breath of the Wild with the timelines.

Until then,
Peace Out.
