Nostalgia, work and why I don't play video games as much as I want to

I've been absent for a while due to work

I haven't even played the last game I posted about, I haven't had time for much this week, nor last week.

Work can be a bitch sometimes you know, more times than I can count I find myself on the bus, waiting to get home to enjoy a bit of free time at the end of the day, just to get home and... rest, it's strange to think about that.

To think that when I lived at my parents' house I had plenty of time to play video games, I remember playing with my brothers and my friends who came home and we would sit on the porch and play Mario Party or Transformers and HOURS could pass before any of us felt like going to bed, now it seems like a feat to be awake past 9 PM.

I remember when it seemed like I could stay up all night playing games and not get tired, I had to have my dad, who even went to bed later than me, tell me it was time to go to bed, in those days I had an old Nintendo 64, we were in the era of the Wii or the 360 but still that old console gave me hours and hours of fun.

It's hard for me to say any other game that made me have more fun than Pokemon Stadium which I played for hours trying to finish all the game modes it had, or even Super Mario 64 which I didn't really like back then, I've come to appreciate it a bit more now that I see how it inspired other games that have become my favourites.

Nintendo Life

It's equally exciting and sad to see every month, and even every week, a new release or a new big technological leap in the industry knowing that I might not be able to play any of it and end up watching it on Youtube, it's also a question that consoles nowadays I think have been going up in price along with the new games, even working all day I can afford it but do I really want to spend a month's salary to buy a console and some games that I'm not going to be able to play anyway?

It's a decision that we don't make consciously but as we grow up and take on other responsibilities it seems to become shorter and shorter that time where we can enjoy a good adventure behind the screen, another memory that comes as I write this is the last time I was living at my parents house, I had the flat ready where I was going to stay with my partner but a poignant thought came to me as I played one last time with that nintendo 64.

that's it, from now on it's just being an adult and nothing more.

It's a sad thing.

Although back then it was more like 'now I can buy the console I want, a good pc, I'll build my setup' and finally play the games I couldn't play before.

It's been 5 years since that, since then I've adopted 2 cats, yes I've bought a setup but not a full gamer setup, let's say it's a work in progress.

It's hard to find cheap graphics cards in this area.

Even being able to play some low-resource games that I couldn't before, I'm faced with the problem of work again, I've thought many nights about quitting and maybe start a career writing or doing some youtube channel. Someone has to keep dreaming, that's what my girlfriend says every time she sees me coming home from work worn out, I'll take a few days to decide if I start a new project, for now I leave you with this post and I hope your stories about it, thanks.

Just a word of advice, don't. Both of those careers are very hard to break into and isn't as easy as just doing it. When we're talking about Youtube you'll need to have ALOT of SUBS and views to make a livable earning off of it. And for writing, it really depends on what type of writing, but most people who work for publications only get paid pennies for the articles they put out.

If you do want to try that stuff out, do so. Just do it as a side thing and if it grows into something you can sustain, than that is when (IMO) you can think about quitting your day job.

Managing time and energy feels like an actual skill set to acquire! Every journey begins with a single step and there's no better time to start than now! Today's technology doesn't always require a person to actually sit down and type anything! You could record your voice and transcribe it and just copy paste it into whatever blog or writing website you are participating in. For Youtube, if you can churn out a video regularly enough, I say do it! Holding onto dreams is what keeps a persons hope alive. Don't let anything snuff it out! Hope you are able to play the games you enjoy and I wish you well in your endeavors.

excellent recommendations and thanks for the kindness, I'll try it right now, I'm playing some shorter games to enjoy and not clog my day
