The symptoms of treating video games as a SaaS business model extends beyond the servers as well to things like changing digital SKUs. In some cases devs have removed paid DLC at a games end-of-life, all while selling an updated version of the same game with the same DLC to get the user to buy it again. It isn't unreasonable to allow users play the games and content they purchased, if the community is willing to run the services required to do so.
